A little help with a 69 swb hood!

I have an aftermarket cowl hood on my truck with an aftermarket grille. It is a real chore to get my fat fingers in there to pop the hood latch, but when I do manage to release the hood, I have to manually lift it up. If I remember correctly, my 72 blazer popped itself up enough once the hood release was lifted, so that I could easily raise the hood after that. I guess a long story short, am I missing a spring of some sort that helps the hood pop up?

Could be the rivets in the hinges or some binding maybe even just need the be lubed. Worth a can pf PB blaster or WD 40.
Welcome to the board!

You may have to adjust the hood hinges. The hinges make the pop up you unlatch it.

Re: A little help with a 69 swb hood!

Ok thanks for the help guys. I looked on numerous exploded parts views and I couldn't find anything that I was missing. The hinges and springs are new. However they have been painted. I'll try some lube and see where that gets me. Thanks!

You may need to raise the front of the hinges or lower the rear of them to create tension as the hood is closing. This creates a tension that makes the hood "pop" and creates a little more effort to push for the last inches when it closes, if that makes sense.

Yes sir that helps a bunch! I will give that a shot and see where it gets me. I lubed all the pivot points and nothing changed.

Well I thought it would help haha. I just looked over the hinges and springs... how exactly do I extend them or "move them forward/backwards"?

You have to loosen the bolts on the fenders. I usually loosen all of them, but leave them just snug enough to where they don't move by themselves, and try to open the hood further (higher) than normal and it will usually move the front of the hinges a little higher. Just don't push the hood hard to bend or warp it. It would be hard to do that, but some people go all out some things! -lol
