Door striker problem?

Hey fellows found a 67 c-10 a while back that the doors won't lock when shut, locks fine with doors open with key or rod at top of door. Or if I shut the door locked will unlock when it latches. Doors fit and latch well,
Any ideas ?,
Thanks

Re: Door striker problem?

Door latches are designed to lock with the key or rod and will not work when closing the door. Your latch is probably just worn. Try pushing in on the door while turning the key.

Re: Door striker problem?

You should try as JimK suggested. Also, open the door and lift on the end.You may find some slop in the hinge this can also cause the door latch to not latch well enough to lock easily.

Re: Door striker problem?

Door strikers were replaced by p.o. Seem to be in good condition, door has no sag, aligns and latches very easy and gap around door is close to perfect. The little arm in the latch mechanism won't lock into tumbler when door is shut/ in the striker, will try pushing on door while turning key.
