I have the lower cast one but not the steel back one, if anyone has the steel one you'd have a set

Re: WTB 72 power steering pump brackets
It is my understanding that the PS brackets are the same for a long water pump and a short pump. If this is true, I have an extra set that is blasted and painted black, ready to install.
I would take $40.00 for both or $25.00 for each piece shipped if I (someone/anyone) can confirm if they are the same. I bought the set for my 72 because it has a long water pump and I want to change to a short. EDIT: Give teeitup the opportunity for the sale of the cast bracket first. |

Re: WTB 72 power steering pump brackets
Thanks for the replies here is a picture off what i am told is a 72 with a 350 short water pump.
I am not 100% sure because I have never seen a picture of both brackets. |

Re: WTB 72 power steering pump brackets
I am not home now but I will be there this weekend and I will check what I have compared to the ones already on my truck. If there is no difference, then I will offer them up and post photos.
Until then, if you find what you need elsewhere, no worries. Good Luck |

Re: WTB 72 power steering pump brackets
John, the ones in your pic are SWP brackets for our years, as Uncle said LWP brackets are different. As I said I have the cast one is all. Thanks Randy

Re: WTB 72 power steering pump brackets
I have done a little research on this and discovered the following. If you have a long water pump set up on a 1967-1972 chevy pick up, it is incorrect. That does not mean it will not work but all trucks with 350 engines had a short waterpump set up from the factory until 1973 when they changed. also in 1973, the cast portion of the p/s bracket was eliminated and all pieces of the brackets were stamped steel.
The reason I questioned long water pump verses short water pump is that my 1972 has a 1978 engine with a long water pump and alternator on the passenger side. As I mentioned, the correct set up is a short water pump with alternator on drivers side. What confused me is although I have a long water pump set up, I have a short style p/s bracket set up. I am willing to bet, I could replace my pump and brackets from a 1973 + engine and it would work just fine. I am not convinced that it is a long vs short problem more than it is a 1972 vs 1973 problem. I hope this makes since. If you still need brackets Jim, I have them also for sale. Good Luck. |
