60-62 V8 engine mounts...

I don't think most of our '60-'62 trucks came with a V8.
My Suburban has the horseshoe mount on the front of the block, and the side mounts on the bellhousing.

For guys swapping in a V8, what are you using for motor mounts?

Hey Brad, The small block's use the same horseshoe type mount. My 62 K truck had a six originally. I have to move my bracket to the rear of the cross member. Might be a bigger job on a 2WD though.

I used 67-72 mounts and still have the bellhousing mounts in use as well. Check my links to cardomain for pictures.

The '67-'72 small block motor mount brackets are shorter and fit the early frames pretty close. I believe markeb01 put a 3/8" or so, spacer on top of the frame in his truck.

Here's the thread showing how I did mine. Also take a look at the first link to the persch site. It shows the 2 piece side mount towers that were used apparently on the 2 wheel drive trucks. I actually found a couple of these in the wrecking yards about 20 years ago, but I couldn't obtain because they still had engines on top of them.

years ago i had a 62 2wd 283/3speed all stock, and it had the horseshoe front mount.

Hi Brad,

I encountered the exact same thing you did. If you look at the earlier photos without the engine, you can see there are no side motor mounts in the front and the bellhousing mounts like yours are completely visible. (That's my NP440 / MY6 transmission that I'm dying to try out).

In the lower photos, you can see where I'm installing the perches and motor mounts like you are talking about. I used two 1/2" spacers on each side and the perches are off a 67-72 truck. I got those at the wrecking yard for $50 and the motormounts from RockAuto for about $20 including shipping.

I had to do these front mounts because the new motor is a 383 Stroker has a harmonic balancer that wouldn't clear the horseshoe front motor mount where the bolt threads into the boss.

Took me an entire weekend to get this thing fitted up and installed. The last photo is of the motor in the truck and as you can see, the project is doable.

I keep planning to do a build thread...but this darn truck is taking me so long that I think "Old Timers" disease is setting in and I keep forgetting!

As for that horseshoe collar motor mount? My dad ran that thing for 30 years without a single problem. It's an odd looking mount, but it works really well and is pretty bulletproof. I would not hesitate to use this on any 350 motor. The bolts will slip right into the set of holes on the front crossmember, no problem.

Do beware, if you plan on adding a power steering pump on the drivers side, you will have to grind a small portion of the horseshoe motor mount flange in order to get the pump to fit. Not a big deal at all.
