LQ4/4L80E Swap Question-a-palooza
Alright boys, been staring slack jawed at all this LS goodness and finally tripped over a wrecked 2001 pickup to steal from. I'm just about ready to pull the drivetrain (U-joints, trans mount & Cherry Picker to go...) So now its time to start thinking about piecing everything together.
I've read a ridiculous amount of threads and faqs and i think i may have over saturated my noggin, so here goes.
I'm absolutely positive I'm forgetting things but its a start. I'm sure some of this will have to be put off in the interest of actually getting the truck back up and running but at least I'll have this for reference. Thanks, Gang. Last edited by DjS71; 08-20-2013 at 03:22 PM. |

Re: LQ4/4L80E Swap Question-a-palooza
As far as the DTs go just get the bigger set. They aren't Mich more expensive and then you won't have to buy a bigger set if you decide to upgrade later. They won't negatively impact performance on a street truck enough to notice and I would think a 6.0L would actually benefit even in mild form.
Use the on rail reg. I bought a better style filter/reg thinking it would make things easier but it isn't worth it. Now I'm out $30 and I need to buy some more line. The on rail reg works just fine. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: LQ4/4L80E Swap Question-a-palooza
some like the Z06 cam, or the GM Hot cam...more lift/dur depending on taste w/stall to match. get the big tube headers for performance mined build. keep in mind a small cam change will require a spring change, larger changes will add chromoly p-rods. A car rag showed Comp says its 216/220 ? is their most recommended/sold cam.
hotrod.com/techarticles/engine/hrdp_0909_gm_ls_engine_cam_test my 6.0L has 223/231@.050 .610/.617 112LSA cam and 1 7/8" tube 3" collector headers and a 2800 stall. Can downshift/WOT at 50-55mph and spin 275's. Haven't had it to the track but know it will be fun...once I get a vibration fixed.

Re: LQ4/4L80E Swap Question-a-palooza
Billett - Figured the 6.0 would be ok with the larger. On-rail-regulator seems to be the consensus. Thanks.
68GMCCustom - 10-4 on the spring change, and I hadn't seen that article before. Good info, albeit with an L92 Swap. Good luck with that vibration, eh? Jon01 - Good wallet friendly call on the motor mounts. Shame I'll have to figure some more saving up for a column. PRNDL connectors ain't budging, i got the lock tabs off but if i pry any harder I'm definitely going to break something.... I guess that'll tell me which parts i need to get :P I'll look at it more closely when i get it out of the donor. That's 2 recommendations for both Tick and BP so far, I'll definitely keep them in mind. Thanks everyone thus far, much obliged. |

Take a heat gun to the PRNDL connector. It will come loose quickly.

I was thinking about that last night at work... It's definitely worth a shot.
