Question about 16.5 x 8.25 Steelies for 1972
I know these did not come with hub caps. Did they have small holes that may have had been for clips near the inside close to the lug nut holes? I just got a set and they have the holes. I am trying to decide whether or not to fill the holes based on what the original configuration would have been. Thanks.

Re: Question about 16.5 x 8.25 Steelies for 1972
Any photos? 1969 thru 1972 3/4 tons all came with bumps, to match the 12" diameter hubcaps. If your wheels originally had clips, they are correct for 1967 and 1968 3/4 tons, which used the smaller 8 3/4" cap.

Re: Question about 16.5 x 8.25 Steelies for 1972
These steelies if correct for 69-72 will take hubcaps - see an example of mine in my K20 build thread below...not sure about the small holes. Can you post up a pic?

Re: Question about 16.5 x 8.25 Steelies for 1972
Here is a picture. I am sure from looking at original literature that in 1972 a Blazer came without hubcaps. but did they have holes for the clips to be riveted on?

Re: Question about 16.5 x 8.25 Steelies for 1972
always thought 16.5x8.25 were 8 lug 3/4 ton wheels...? That is the size on my 3/4 ton anyway
Anyway, I believe that there would be nubs - but no clips in 72. I'm not a Blazer guru, but that's my understanding. Are your 6 lug wheels stamped? Factory K5 blazer should have 15" 6 luggers, I believe. |

Re: Question about 16.5 x 8.25 Steelies for 1972
The plot thickens! Ok, 6 lug. Yes, the 16.5" 6 lug wheel was optional on '72 Blazers. The same 16.5" wheel originally had clips on 1967 and 1968 1/2 tons, but 69 thru 72 16.5" wheels did not come with clips, due to the new hubcap design that did not fit.

Re: Question about 16.5 x 8.25 Steelies for 1972
16.5 x 8.25 6-lug were definitely an option on Blazers. I'd like to have a set for my 72 K5 to match those 8 luggers on my K20! Caps were available on Blazers for sure but whether they were standard I don't know. Sure no nubs on those wheels? A lot of the center is outside the field of view so I can't quite tell.

Re: Question about 16.5 x 8.25 Steelies for 1972
Perfect! I've seen that pic before, but never thought that looking at it closely would reveal the holes. That is exactly what I was looking for. I really did not want to fill the holes and this makes my decision easier.
Thanks.

Re: Question about 16.5 x 8.25 Steelies for 1972
I found the 16.5 x 8.25, six hole wheels listed for 1/2 ton and Blazer 4x4's in my 1970 parts book, so they were available in '70 and '71 as well.

1972Blaze would you please post a photo of the whole wheel. Is the size stamped on the inside or outside? Thanks.

Re: Question about 16.5 x 8.25 Steelies for 1972
The wheels aren't the option. The option is for 10.00" tires, which were only available in heavier load ranges in 16.5. I had a '71 K/10 Custom with chrome hubcap option and 8.25 x 16.5s. I've had after market Kelsey Hayes 6 and 5-lug 16.5s with nubs. Not sure what the deal is but some came with hubcaps. The centers are the same and the rim is different,so the 1/2t caps are what is used.

Re: Question about 16.5 x 8.25 Steelies for 1972
If you look closely at the GMC brochure, the hubcaps have been drawn in, in other words, it is a doctored photo. There are later versions of the 16.5" wheel with bumps ( post '73), but early versions ( pre '73) of the 16.5" were originally designed with clips.

Re: Question about 16.5 x 8.25 Steelies for 1972
Okay, I have a couple more pictures. I looked closely at the wheels and they have a 1972 date on them. No nubs for hubcaps as you can see. I appreciate any info someone can give me about these wheels.

factorystock pretty much summed it up in the prior post.
