windshield replacement
I'm needing info on how to replace the front windsheild. Do you have to use a guitar string or something to cut it out or what?

I use a box cutter. Of course the seal is destroyed while doing this, but I always like to use a new one anyhow.

Guitar strings work pretty well, you can also buy wire made for this purpose, if you don't want to restring your guitar LOL, just make sure you use a couple of wooden dowels and wrap the wire around them to use for handles, or your hands will never forgive you.

hey short, if ya wanna know the way to install....get your self some sashcord (small rope), put a "new" windshield gasket onto the glass (i squirt a little windshield sealant in the channel first), have someone help you lay the glass over the opening, lay the rope into the channel all the way around and make it overlap a little, as you pull the cord out of the channel slowly it forces the gasket to roll over the lip of the opening for a very easy install. i usually lube the cord a little with dawn dish detergent to make the job easy. i have installed many of this type windshield in different types of vehicles and find they are the easiest to install. hope i've helped.

I learned the hard way . . . don't buy a cheap aftermarket gasket. Buy one from your local Chevy dealer. The aftermarket one doesn't fit as well and is nearly impossible to use. The GM made gasket fits better and is easier to install. Mine is a deluxe gasket (for the chrome strip) so I don't know if that makes a difference or not.
