Steering box

Are they a steering box I can just bolts on that gives me better steering without adding power steering ? Something like a quick ratio steering box.I know I can do the steering box/front end from a 73 Chevy up and will if I can't find a quick ratio box.I heard you can cut the front off a 73 and up Chevy and use everything off it and it also has disk and 5 lug.I don't fully understand since the trucks are full framed how everything bolts on.The way people talk they just unbolt the front end and bolt the later model front end on. I'm in the process or was in the process of taking my coils out to cut them until I couldn't find my pickle fork.so now ill have to buy a new one to finish.while I'm at it I'm going to replace my shocks, notice they are the original shocks lol.

You could use a '73-87 manual steering box. May possibly be a different ratio, but at least may have less wear on it.

They're referring to swapping the crossmember and complete front suspension. The framerails do not get cut.

Check out my build thread, I studied a few write ups here on how to do it. I put a 79 2WD 1/2 ton front end under my wife's 61. Pretty straight forward. I also swapped out to 6 lug rotors as I wanted to keep her wheels. I sourced a complete front end, rotor to rotor off a guy on AZ. I still have to source a power steering box. But I plan on using the mounting brackets made by CaptainFab, he is a member here on the forums.

Spin the wheel with your palm. BTW, later steering boxes will need an adapter like the PS boxes, and offer no advantage that I can think of. I think they may have been very, very slightly quicker ratio, but nothing you would notice. (Mine was from a '78 IIRC)

Well I got them just about done with. The pass side was a breeze the driver side gave me some trouble mainly because the tire wouldn't come off.I also discovered the break pads have cracks in them which is one reason my breaking has been so bad.


I was going to cut the coil a coil and a half but after I cut a full coil and seeing it I decided it was enough.

Here is what the coil looks like cut.I'll take another pic when it's all back together and on the ground.
