5.3l oil pan
Hey, newbie here basically guessing my way through a build a.k.a learning by mistakes. I have a 5.3l lm7 sitting on a s10 frame. Do I have to change the oil pan? I swapped the motor mounts so that the motor sits back further and the stock pan clears the crossmember. Havn't mocked up the body yet so I am not sure if it will be too far back. At the same time, the bottom of the pan is sitting about as low as the lowest point on the rear axle.

Welcome and a great opening question.
Tons of photos usually gets you faster answers. Use Photobucket as a host and copy/paste the url in your thread.

Re: 5.3l oil pan
I have a 5.3 in my S10 and I'm using the truck oil pan, it hangs down about a inch below my cross member. I did notch the cross member so I could use it though.

Re: 5.3l oil pan
This might not be that useful, but maybe as more of an FYI to others reading this thread - I am using a 5.3 motor on a stock AD frame with IFS. I tried one of the flatter Camaro oil pans, but found that the stock truck pan fits a lot better!

Re: 5.3l oil pan
Please share a picture of the fit if you have one. What IFS was it? I am doing the same thing you are and was thinking of using a fatman IFS.

Re: 5.3l oil pan
You don't have to change the pan, but will gain more ground clearance if you do. See my build thread, I have pics of how far the H3 (muscle car) pan hangs down with a 5.3 in an S10 framed AD.

I have a 5.3 and I'm using the camaro oil pan, windage tray pickup tube and dip stick.
