71 C20 new guy help!

yWell guys I'm new on here, I have a 71 c20 that I have been driving everyday for going on 2 years now. I'm 18 this was the first vehicle I bought with my own money and love the truck to death. I'm thinking of converting to 5 lug so I can have better gearing for my driving, because I have the HO72 if I'm not mistaken and I have 4.10 gears in the rear (I may be wrong I don't know a lot about the rear end. Anyway I broke the rear end a couple days ago.....being cool and burning the tires off.... and I have not been able to find parts for it. I am wondering if the 71 c10 5 lug spindles with disc brakes will fit my 71 c20 a arms and it is also disc brake. Thanks again.

I'm not sure on the 5 lug but if you found a Dana 60 leaf spring rear diff you would have more gearing choices and still be 8 lug (less work)

I was thinking about doing that too. But there pretty expensive around here. And the guy that has all the 5 lug stuff wants $200 for everything.

Re: 71 C20 new guy help!

the 5 lug stuff will not fit your 8 lug A arms. You could find a C-10 donor like thousands have done and use the front suspension for a disc brake swap although the front crossmember should be the same for C10 and C-20. And to answer another of your questions all 71 and 72's will be disc brake trucks. A change to 1/2 ton [5 lug ] would help the truck tons in the ride department but your still young you can take a beating and like it during a drive. Good luck to you hope you r riding soon. Jim
