3 speed floor shifter problem
I have a Indy H 3 speed floor shifter in my restored 67 pick up. Problem is it's too short and hitting my bench seat. Seat is all the way back and won't let me get into 1st gear. Can I turn the shifter around (disconnect and reattach) to get the clearance? I been looking everywhere for a 16" shifter or a straight stick with no luck. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

Re: 3 speed floor shifter problem
Not sure about your shifter, but when my shifter hit the seat once, I took it off, heated the handle at the base and bent it forward. The boot covered just about all of the heat marks.

Re: 3 speed floor shifter problem
I may give that a try. If I could find a straight stick, that'd be awesome, but nobody has them.

Re: 3 speed floor shifter problem
Here's a cheap cure. 18" tall handle that clears your seat nicely. I used one in my 67 gmc. You could use just the handle.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Manual-3-spe...sories&vxp=mtr Here's another alternative. Made for bench seat cars. Used one of them too in a 56 chevy. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hurst-Shifte...item53ebd427c5 |

Re: 3 speed floor shifter problem
Yeah I checked the mount and it's not adjustable enough. I need another 4" of clearance and there's no way I can get that moving the support. I checked out both sites and will probably go with the first one. Thanks guys for you info. I appreciate it!

Re: 3 speed floor shifter problem
Is your motor in the v8 position or the inline 6 position? this will make about 4" difference.

Re: 3 speed floor shifter problem
I have the same problem, and can't seem to find a straight shift lever anywhere. My truck came with two shifters (levers and linkages) but both are garbage and neither will stay in the correct plane when in gear; ie - if it is in first, you can move it all around just like it is neutral and you won't know you're in gear till you let out the clutch, then you have to go hunting around to find the right notch and pull it out of gear. Also, the shifter on the kit I just put in is welded to the linkage, so removing it and heating/bending it would be tedious at best. Anyone know anything about those $30 spectre kits? Are they worth the $30 and an hour's worth of work to change to?
Thanks! Patrick PS - 72 c10 floor shift conversion |

Re: 3 speed floor shifter problem
Don't waste your time on the spectre shifter. I used the Mr. Gasket several times. Here's a thread with some info. In post #9 I give an explanation of how to fix them from the getgo.

Re: 3 speed floor shifter problem
so the Mr. Gasket 7667a is an ok replacement? Don't want to waste any more money on this shifter if it won't work like it should. Does it provide good, positive shifts? Bench seat compatible?

Re: 3 speed floor shifter problem
That's why i gave a link to it. Modified like I said in that post it'll shift good, be consistent and fit your bench. And the one in the link is super cheap. The same one elsewhere on ebay is 110 bucks.

Re: 3 speed floor shifter problem
here's a pic of a mr. gasket beside a hurst shifter from a '66 le mans. one reason for not installing it yet is i have heard that the throw is really long and my shifter works ok.

Re: 3 speed floor shifter problem
They do indeed have a longish throw but it's fixable. Drill another hole above the 2 in the arms and do the same on the tranny. As best as it'll get.

Re: 3 speed floor shifter problem
a piece of metal with two holes drilled for mounting and a bunch of threads for a gear shift
a tiny bit of imagination is required
