You can also use an LS1 t56. There's a $200 adapter plate and $25 pilot bearing available that allows you to bolt the LS style trans to the original SBC bell housing and retain the SBC flywheel/clutch/linkage. I'm just about to do this swap, and relocate the shifter to the forward location to clear my bench seat.
