Bleed screw seal?
I bought a brake bleeding system and just now trying to use it, it says in the instruction manual to apply a thin film of silicone lubricant to the threads if you want to use vacuum at the calipers to pull brake fluid thru from the master.
Anybody ever hear of this? what silicone film? One person here said his dad used a bit of grease around the outside of the threads to get an airtight seal. I have only bled brakes the old fashioned way with a helper, never with a bleeder tool. Any help is appreciated!

Re: Bleed screw seal?
I think they're talking about the silicone lube that raybestos makes for caliper guide pins etc..silicone won't effect brake fluid if a little gets in the fluid.

Re: Bleed screw seal?
I have a phoenix injector but I only use it to pressure bleed. It makes a huge mess but it works like a champ.
My experience with vacuum bleeding is the same as yours. It will pull air from every connection.

Re: Bleed screw seal?
You can get that silicone lubricant at any parts store. Which brand system did you buy?

I just use wheel bearing grease with mine. I know pressure bleeding is the best way. On another note...Has anyone tried the bleeder screws with the check valve? http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...help_7621295-p With these one person is supposed to be able to bleed the brakes the old fashioned way. They have pretty good reviews on Advance's web site but I don't always trust that because they sometimes screen them. LockDoc

Re: Bleed screw seal?
Thanks for the replies!
OleBlue: Your not talking about disk brake quiet grease are you? If anyone can show me a link to some kind of silicone grease that won't hurt the brake fluid that would be helpful, Thanks! Tom Vogel and BigDave: I bought the Phoenix V-12 system, had some problems with it tho and i hope i have it sorted out. I tried to use the vacuum side at the caliper to pull some fresh fluid thru and flush the old fluid out, the pump didn't work at all. Mind you i just want to flush the lines at this point. So i went to the master and put another adapter on it and blocked the brake pedal down 1 inch per the manual, i was able to push some fluid thru but it appeared my pump had an air leak as i got massive amount of tiny air bubbles inside the gun. So i disassembled the gun last night, found that the felt wiper right next to the O-ring was bone dry and the manual said to be sure it was saturated on install, also found a bad fitting, it seems to pump fluid better now but will have to try again tomorrow? I'm hoping to find some of this silicone grease then finish the flushing, then do a reverse bleed after that.

Re: Bleed screw seal?
I have another question:
I bench bleed my master before i installed it, i hooked up the lines to the proportioning valve but the lines were disconnected at the calipers for about another 2-3 weeks, i looked into the master when i tried the flush and the front reservoir was drained exposing the port so i put more fluid in. Would this warrant having to re-Bench bleed?

Re: Bleed screw seal?
Sounds like a lot of guff to bleed some brakes. I use to use an Ammco bleeder and it works great. All you need is the correct adapter for your master and about 15 psi of air pressure.
As far as a lube or sealer for the bleeders, just use a dab of anti-seize on the threads. The seal is on the machined tapered side of the bleeder and that fits into the machined tapered hole in the caliper/wheel cylinder. There is no thread sealer. Have you tried gravity bleeding the brakes. If you have no issues with any parts, a simple crack of the bleeders will let them gravity bleed. Make sure you remove the master cap and keep the fluid full. Do this until good clean fluid comes out of all 4 bleeders and you should be good. My apologize if I misunderstand your post. Good luck
