Sideswipe removal?
At work today at some point someone decided to bump with my truck. Dammit. No mirror door handle grr. Question is how would i remove the paint i freshly applied without hurting my clear or color of the truck? When it comes to body work i'm jus good at lining up panels so be easy! Ha

Re: Sideswipe removal?
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but there is a dent under that white paint. First you need to clean it wash the area. Then you will need some rubbing compound, a small amount on a wet terry or micro fiber towel and then in the wax on wax off type thing try to remove the offending white paint. Then you will need some polishing compound do remove the slight haze that the rubbing compound is gonna make. Then once that is done you can then wax over the area, if all of the marks are then gone. then you can put the new door handle on. Jim

Re: Sideswipe removal?
I would skip the compounds first, try using laq thinner on a soft clean rag first and if that doesn't take it all off then the compounds to remove it.

Re: Sideswipe removal?
How fresh is the paint? That needs to be answered before I would want to get close with laquer thinner on a rag. I am not saying Big is wrong, I would just like to know that you had mentioned it was fresh. Jim

Re: Sideswipe removal?
Oh, so sorry I though I was under the impression it was brand new paint by all means get some laquer thinner and wipe off the white marks. They will melt away with that thinner. I thought the paint was fresh so I didn't want to harm it but with the harshness of getting the thinner near it cause it would make fresh clearcoat gummy. Yeah, it will melt away then wax back over it then put in your new handle. Jim

Re: Sideswipe removal?
I'll try that tomorrow or the weekend. Harbor freight is having a sale so seems like a good time for a buffer. Could i attach one to my 4" angle grinder?

Re: Sideswipe removal?
HF has a buffer there once you get there look at it I bought one for a spare type deal, you can get the buffer and the pads there too all for less than like 40 or 50 bucks. It is not a DeWalt or Snap-On but at 50 bucks it don't have to be. It is a 6 inch varible with a velcro type pad. I am afraid the white marks are not from somebody else, but your truck that is your clear there. That is why your needing the buffer. Jim
