will a bolt to the block mini starter work with the org bell housing? just wondering, as you never know what you are getting with a rebuilt.

Re: mini starter with old bellhousing

That's a good question It would not engage the flywheel It wouldn't line up with the teeth for some reason.

I quit messing with it altogether and went with a standard sized hi torque starter.

it may depend on which flywheel that you are using. there are 2 different ring gears

i don't know, but i would surmise that if the starter that is supposed to go with that ring gear bolted to the block and fit and worked, then there is no reason why the mini won't work. you may have to shim though for the proper toleranct
sorry can't help you beyond that. no one else had mentioned the 2 sizes of r/gears so i did

Re: mini starter with old bellhousing

I have never tried a mini starter with the original style bellhousing in these trucks. I do know that the typical block mounted starter will not work with this bellhousing. The starter nose hits inside the bellhousing. Why not just get the correct starter for the bellhousing?

Re: mini starter with old bellhousing

The mini starters fit fine with the old truck bell housing on mine. There is nothing on those starters that sticks behind the front plane of the ring gear. I have a Powermaster 9600 on mine and have also temporarily fit a 9000 which is a Hitachi style I believe.
