Just Bought My Last Aftermarket Trim
Messing with the windshield trim had me taking a look at the possibility of running the trim from the lower-rear of the windows around
the back of the cab. I looked on a familiar site that sells parts. Not to hack at them, but the company name has three letters in it that starts with "L". Fair enough. About $50 with shipping...even though they insist on sending everything with all that damnable styro popcorn in the box... I went for it. This morning I pulled the trim out of the box...along with 2 sq yds of the white stuff...Unwrapped it. "Gotta protect the new paint".... ...Carefully slapped some blue tape on it. Slapped some blue tape on the cab. Held it up. There was not ONE PLACE...(okay, maybe one or two) ...that the trim laid flat on the cab or met the cab's corner radius. I said to myself, "Be patient". "It was only fifty bucks." "Bend it a little". "Slowly." "Slowly." "Slowly." An hour later, I said "What the *&%* am I doing with this crap?" "It looks like crap." "In my hands, and on MY truck, it'll always look like crap." No more aftermarket trim for me.

Re: Just Bought My Last Aftermarket Trim
At least your language was cleaner than most, but that seems to be the consensus for most of their (no name) products....

It's cool you can vent without getting scolded like a child ! I believe down the road all special interest vehicles will be valued for being original, not rebuilt using inferior parts. I like the brief cases in your bed sharp idea

Re: Just Bought My Last Aftermarket Trim
By all means tell people it's LMC trim, don't be discreet about it. It's unfortunate that someone has to be the bearer of bad news but it saves many the heartache and can be beneficial to any company with an open ear that needs feedback on their products. Maybe you just got a bad one, but quality control should be paramount at a company.

Re: Just Bought My Last Aftermarket Trim
I've had nothing but bad luck with stuff from LMC. I won't buy anything from them anymore unless they are the only source i can find.
I wish I would have known that before I bought many of things I got from them.

Mar-K is a good source for trim.

Re: Just Bought My Last Aftermarket Trim
Yes, I used Mar-K for my lower trim and paint divider trim and it fit very well. In fact the fit and finish was way better than the NOS stuff I had bought.

The order for the paint divider (around the back of the cab) was $36...which included 12 screw-in studs at $.25 ea. The shipping cost was (going to be) $33, including a $10 "handling charge"......Whoa!!!! At that point in the ordering, since I was going to use a debit card (I saw no method on the site of paying with Paypal...understandable with Paypal's nasty fees), the prompt said, "We'll call you for a credit card number". Before they could do that, I wrote their info email addy and explained that the shipping charges were too high for such a small order. Vicky wrote back and said the computer had made a mistake and charged me for two boxes (the studs, I guess), and that the new shipping cost was $27 (including a $10 "handling fee"). I wrote back and thanked her for the attention to this, but that $27 for a $36 purchase was too much for me to get "fuzzy" over. I told her I recognized it was a cost that they had to pass on, and that it would probably be more palatable if I had a larger order. She was nice, responsive, and understood. No trim for me. No big deal. I like the back of the cab the way it is now, anyway. Sometimes, "plain" is better.

Re: Just Bought My Last Aftermarket Trim
So many bad stories about LMC....the side mirrors and door handles I got from them fit and work fine but the chrome is junk.
Their foot pedal pads are fine though. Their tailights for a stepside are fine too. |

I am very pleased with the Mar-K trim I bought. Shipping is high, have you seen the price of diesel lately........ It sucks! BTW, your truck looks awesome!!

Re: Just Bought My Last Aftermarket Trim
I built a truck for someone. He purchased LMC parts . The side trim was less rigid than an aluminum can . The visor rods came with directions to bend rod to keep visors from falling down. With all the technology we have today why cant aftermarket parts be reproduced better than 1970? I purchased 2 short wide upper and lower side molding sets that were NOS and they both were missing the fender spears. I purchased the spears from Mar-k and you would be hard pressed to tell the difference from NOS.

Re: Just Bought My Last Aftermarket Trim
I will use LMC ONLYwhen I've exhausted all other possibilities. I have never been happy with the quality of anything they sell, especially anything made out of rubber. The packing peanuts also drive me nuts. I even complained about it, but it fell on deaf ears.

because nothing is made in the USA anymore, we have been sold out by the corporate greed for a cheaper product,

Re: Just Bought My Last Aftermarket Trim
I would like to think if we have companies where quality matters such as Mar-K and people take notice hopefully it will force the others to produce quality or resort to the manufacturing of packing peanuts or paper drink umbrellas. This is my opinion.

Re: Just Bought My Last Aftermarket Trim
It's not corporate greed that's making cheap parts, it's the consumers demand for a cheaper product. Most folks looking for a part for a driver just don't want to spend the money for a high quality product, that's why the LMCs of the world thrive.

100% correct. It's funny how people will blame just about everything but themselves though
