need help 250-350 swap clutch?!?!

Fired my motor today only to find I couldnt get my clutch to disengage! Everything outside (linkage) appears to work properly and I'm certain it's traveling far enough but still doesn't disengage. It's a 250 flywheel on a 350, with a four speed (3+granny). I believe I'm running a 350 clutch setup and I'm beginning to think this is my problem. Was I supposed to use the 250 clutch setup. Please any help is appreciated I'm doing this truck for a friend and feel terrible it's not drivable yet!

The flywheels are the same between the two, It sounds like you may have the incorrect throw out bearing for the pressure plate you are using, there are two types of pressure plates the diaphram style and the three fingered style.. necessitating two different bearings, a long one and a short one.

Re: need help 250-350 swap clutch?!?!

The throwout bearing came with the clutch kit... do still think that could be the issue. I was unaware there were two different 250 flywheel.... I just ordered a clutch the same diameter but the 350 version from Napa

interchangeable yes but there are still two different flywheels for either the 10.5" or 11" clutch and I I was trying to see what he was lining up. And you are correct about the pressure plates and throwout bearings with each of two styles of pressure plates. So there is a lot of variables here!

Re: need help 250-350 swap clutch?!?!

I must have the 11" since the 350 version appeared to be the same diameter and it bolted up?

Highly likely, but not guaranteed.

Re: need help 250-350 swap clutch?!?!

I'm using a 11" diaphram style for the 350. I was just hoping someone else had done a 250 to 350 swap and used the stock manual trans. Possibly remembering which clutch they used with it.

Re: need help 250-350 swap clutch?!?!

I am going to have to go with what livrat said and say that you have the wrong throwout bearing... Is this a new clutch? and was it a kit or something you pieced together?

Kit from Napa. Like I said though it's the 350 version. It has a different part number from the 250.

Re: need help 250-350 swap clutch?!?!

It's been a while since I did a clutch in one but IIRC the 350 style throwout bearing is the short one while the 250 is longer. The clutch linkage wouldn't move the throwout bearing far enough to disengage.Keep in mind that that is from my memory which is loaded with "Senior Moments" and "Brain Farts"
