Is an 8" dual diaphragm booster enough for my application?

Hey guys, I'm converting to discs up front and need a brake booster. I like the look of the smaller 8 inch boosters but i'm concerned about the amount of pressure they can produce.

Eventually i may use the truck to pull a small open trailer with my mustang on it to the autocross track..I have no experience towing so i dont know what the braking situation is like.

Regardless if i use it for towing or not, If i eventually go to discs in the rear would that affect the performance of the brake booster?

Amount of vacuum available from your engine is the answer to your question. The more radical your cam less vacuum it produces. In most typical stock engine applications a 8" booster is fine.

Only if it's an 8" dual. The 8" dual provides slightly more then the 11" single which was commonly used on trucks.

and going from disc/drum to disc/disc would make no difference at all in the effectiveness of the booster?

Your future trailer needs to have electric brakes, no need for rear disc on your truck.

A disc -disc setup works fine on my truck with an 8in dual Diaphragm booster. Plenty of stopping power. If you pull a trailer be sure you have enough tongue weight on the rear to make use of the rear discs. If the rear isn't loaded the rear brakes are ineffective and you might need a trailer brake..

Interesting..i honestly had no idea that trailers came with electric brakes.

I was thinking the same thing though..when im not towing how much more effective are the rear disc going to be than drums? with there not being any weight back there and all? I just figured discs have to be better than drums for the rear but maybe not much..
