How to fish dome light wire up there?

Subject line is it in a nutshell, but I need to run both the cargo and dome lamp harnesses up to their respective locations.

I put a big washer around it and tried to "drag" it up with a strong magnet, but that went nowhere fast.

I tried to send a wire down from the top hoping I could then tie it and drag my harnesses up, but didn't have much luck. Well, no luck to be precise.

Anyone done this before and have a trick to share?

Thanks!

Electricians tool called "fishtape". If you have a flexible end called a "leader' on it, it should work for you.

If that won"t do it you can tie some string to the end of the leader and "hook" it with another fish tape on the other end. Good luck!

Re: How to fish dome light wire up there?

Got it! Of course, right after giving up and posting, per usual.

Couldn't find my fish tape or my glow stick. I have both... somewhere.

I fished some 14/2 house wire down FROM the dome lamp to the opening at the bottom of the B pillar, taped all my harnesses to it, and pulled it all up and out through.

I wish I could find it but Texas Firefighter made a video a while back. He used string and a blow dryer. I'll look around....

I thought of that video as well.

I used a fishing pole with a 1 ounce weight and no hook. Insert fishing pole into opening, release the line and dropped the weight down the rear pillar. Cut fishing line and tied it onto wiring harness and pull through.

Eazy peazy!

I've used the coat hanger and also the house hold wire took out of the outer sheeve. It's stiff enough to stay straight but will follow the curve of the cab wall when it hits it. Takes a little bit to do but I've had very good luck using it in the past.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: How to fish dome light wire up there?

Clever idea, though not sure it would work as well on our A or B pillars. Never hurts to have another tool in the old mental toolbox though, so thanks!

Re: How to fish dome light wire up there?

I am an electrician and have glow rods and fish tapes, so I used a glow rod. TO anyone not wanting to spend a lot of money, Harbor Freight had some rods simililar to glow rods. IIRC, they are around 2' long and screw together like rifle cleaing rods.

Re: How to fish dome light wire up there?

My first glow rod was left behind in my house, but the second one I bought from Home Depot. Terrible. Was made of fiberglass and as soon as it got bent it developed splinters, and glass splinters will ruin your day.

String and compressed air does wonders. You'll be amazed at the routes you can fish a string thru with it.
