Never seen this before straight axel front end on a 73
Were their any options like this or a 4x4 missing one of the 4's?

Re: Never seen this before straight axel front end on a 73
I have never seen that as an option....
Interesting...hard to see the detail...did someone sub a piece of tubing for the axle housing and just weld the original ends on. You could make an neat 1/4 mile truck..or just a pro street for Libby,MT hot August nights Start with a Blazer chassis...do the straight axle conversion with tubing...use a set back 502 and a TH400 Just like a tri 5 Chevy with a straight axle and flip front |

Not factory. Looks like a 4wd that someone converted. It would be intereting to see the kingpins.

Re: Never seen this before straight axel front end on a 73
Not sure if this is a possibility, I know on the Dodge side if you ordered a cab and chassis 3500 it came with a solid tube axle. Did Chevy do the same around this time period? Maybe they pulled that.
Something that may or may not mean anything. Look at the frame and bottom of the motor. Not any rust hardly. That axle though has alot of surface rust. I agree, not original.

Sway bar not hooked up, steering stabilizer shock not hooked up......don't think it's factory.

Re: Never seen this before straight axel front end on a 73
The question is.... Why would someone do this ? I can only imagine how it must handle with this front end set up

Re: Never seen this before straight axel front end on a 73
I think it looks cool, would make a interesting Gasser style project.
I would have to agree, it would not handle at all, but it would be worth it in my opinion. -Sam

Re: Never seen this before straight axel front end on a 73
I wonder if its a military contract truck of some sort --- the green oxide paint with red interior is a common military truck color scheme ---- some national guard unit could have specce'd that thing that way for use on an airport or something
but truthfully, IDK why

Re: Never seen this before straight axel front end on a 73
if it's rust free (Arizona) would be a decent price. easily convert'd to 4X4 or 2 wheel drive.
as far as military spec'd ...I doubt it. every one I ever seen/work'd on was 1 ton long bed , 24V and had "black out lights" . it's possible but not likely.
