Re: Bought my first diesel. 85 K30
There is no owner it's photochopped. I didn't see it until it was pointed out to me.

Re: Bought my first diesel. 85 K30
I don't know who the owner is. That was just a pic of a crewcab that I found on the web and copied it. Then another member photoshopped if for me to see what it would look like as a regular cab. I like the lifted regular cab look maybe minus the 22's that are on it. Here is the original.

Re: Bought my first diesel. 85 K30
Called the guy who built the truck today. He said it was originally a 4-speed truck with 4.56 gears which it still has today. I think I will have to look into what a set of either 4.10 or 3.73 gears will cost installed. The 56's are a bit lower than what I want.

Re: Bought my first diesel. 85 K30
If you ever plan on running a 34-35" tire then the 4.56's may not be a bad choice. It would most likely put you around a 4.10 ratio.

Re: Bought my first diesel. 85 K30
It will give him 4.56s no matter the tire size.... You mean the taller tires will lower his rpms

Re: Bought my first diesel. 85 K30
Not sure it is fixed but I got it running today. Actually it is sitting outside running now. I ended up charging the batteries the last two days. I cranked on it a while and a couple of times it fired briefly. Let it rest and cranked again. Same thing. So I got up and loosened the bleeder on the fuel filter and bled it a little. I gave it a short shot of starting fluid. Then it started to act like it might actually start. It fired up a few times but when I let off the key it died. So I jumped up in and when it fired I gave it some pedal and it took off.
I have not shut it off yet to see if it will restart. I want it to run a little and get some fluids moving first and I can also see how it is running and so forth. I am going to park it out of the way before I shut it off just incase. I am glad it finally fired up. I was starting to think I was in over my head with this one. I will mess with it for a few days if it continues starting before I take it down the road. I need to recheck the trans fluid first. Just on my property it acted like it didnt want to shift. The last run around I manually shifted it and it shifted. More to come.

Re: Bought my first diesel. 85 K30
I think you knew what I meant. Of course it won't change his installed ring & pinion set. But it will in a way change his final drive ratio to ground which then would lower his RPM's.

Re: Bought my first diesel. 85 K30
I agree with your statement. There is actually a website that I need to find again that you can plug in your tire size and gear ratio and it will break it down to what ratio you end up with. I will see if I can find that again.

Re: Bought my first diesel. 85 K30
Here is the chart I was thinking of. You enter your stock tire size and new tire size with the gears you are running. Then it will tell you what the rear gear ratio now is with the taller tires. So in my my case it has on 285/75/16's verse the factory 235/85's and 4.56 gears. That comes out to like having a 4.41 rear gear. Not that much of an improvement though. I really need some higher gears for this truck.

Re: Bought my first diesel. 85 K30
Thanks! It does need some body work though. Still looks good but it is pretty noticable once you start getting close. Just a couple of more things to address before I can drive it more than just down the road and back.

Re: Bought my first diesel. 85 K30
Are you talking about my truck or the blue one? Mine has 285/75's on it now which measure out at 32.8 diameter. The factory 235/85's measure out at 31.7 inches in diameter. Suprised me that they were so close to the factory tires diameter wise. It makes the truck look big but I think more than anything it might be the 4" lift. Yeah it has been starting. When starting you have to give it a little pedal in order for it to stay running the first few seconds otherwise it will just die. I need to price a set of 3.73's and 4.10's both.

Re: Bought my first diesel. 85 K30
Boy! The more I tear into this truck the more I find I need to address and fix. Not sure how many people have had there hands on this one or even what all has been done but alot has been half assed. Wires eveywhere, firewall grommets poked out and not put back in. Steering column grommet/plate at firewall not even bolted in just hanging there.
Half of the duct work flat out missing, vents covered over with little pieces of sheetmetal. I am going to have to get a wiring diagram of the engine side and track some wires down that were just cut and I have no idea what they are and where they go. They sure did do a crappy job on this one to say the least. I can't even find the wires that plug into what I think is the water separator at the fuel filter. Not sure where they went unless they have fallen down somewhere. Still a good truck but didn't realize I would have to revamp a little of everything.

Re: Bought my first diesel. 85 K30
If this is the one you are talking about then no it is not the same truck. Good looking truck though. I think this one was on ebay for sale last year except the new owner put the mud tires on it.
