Re: 5.3 swap ?s

I stuffed a 5.3/4L60E combo into a 81' Firebird recently and ohhh so much fun. LS juice is addictive for sure.

I custom built the harness as I went along. The caveat for the drive by wire is the pigtail for the pedal assembly had to be lengthened out and the pedal assembly had to be modified to sit on the floor in a similar manner to the stock pedal. Most of the drive by wire setups use a separate module to interface the pedal inputs to the main ECM so plan a separate box to find a home for under the hood. Do not weld any where near the pedal assembly itself, they are really sensitive to static from a welder.

If you have the dollars to spend I HIGHLY recommend quality tail shaft adapter to give both mechanical speedo output and the digital out put the ECM requires to operate. They allow for stock speedometers to be used and make the ECM happy. Oil pans are super easy to swap, just make sure to get the oil pick up tube as they may not interchange.

It was time consuming but super easy, attention to detail. A good site for info was nastyZ28, there is a ton a engine mods going on over there. Good luck.
