Anybody built up a 250 L6 engine?
I'm looking into building a 250 L6 engine for a 63 Nova. I'm considering a highly modified OEM head, roller cam, roller rockers, Scat "H" beam rods, custom forged pistons, 4 barrel intake, header, HEI, about 11:1 comp, and all the goodys to make it come together. Also thinking about a centrifical super charger with a blow through carb. Anybody have any experience with this kind of build? Thanks, Tom

Suttons speed shop in Pemberton, NJ. The owner there does neat stuff to inline sixes.

Re: Anybody built up a 250 L6 engine?
We had a fairly hot 250 cu in L6 in our '69 GMC stepper when new.
.060 over on the bore, 12.5:1 compression, full dual exhaust using a dual outlet manifold, homemade tripower intake with three Rochester 2G carbs and a Pontiac progressive linkage. The cylinder head was reworked by removing the bosses in the intake ports that the bolts pass through. Retention was maintained using cap screws countersunk in the floor of the port; the top of the port was plugged (or, for more clandestine activities, closed off with a simulated head bolt). 3.73 rear axle with a 3.11 low gear Saginaw floor shifted 4 speed trans. Ran well enough to stay ahead of the local V8 trucks; at least on short jaunts on city streets. K

Have a look at "project turbo 250" I think he made around 330 HP on the dyno.

Re: Anybody built up a 250 L6 engine?
Check out www.inliners.org for more stuff on hotter L6s.
[And I love it when people get Chevy's inline six designation right... Ford has I-6s and there was an I-6 Japanese submarine, but GM called them L6s!] Sorry about the rant. Have you read Leo Santucci's "Chevy Inline Six Cylinder Power Manual"? I hear there's now a 2nd edition. Also Larry Page, "Twisted6" on this forum, drags an early '60s Nova with a 250. He's also a Lump Porting expert. Look him up. Good luck. Have fun.

You can also look up member "Krull" on the board. He's had a 6 or two that were warmed over. There is also a book avail from Motorbooks.com and/or Barnes and Noble.
Chevrolet Inline Six-Cylinder by Leo Santucci ISBN1-931128-15-4 He's making killer power with a 6.

Re: Anybody built up a 250 L6 engine?
Wow...hoping up these L6's is more common than I thought. I looked at "project turbo 250" and that is a very nice build. I did some price checking on parts and labor and give the guy a estimate to build the engine. Your guy's tips really helped me alot to gain some idea's and options. We'll see what happens. Thanks!

Re: Anybody built up a 250 L6 engine?
A 250 for a 63 duece, eh? I have one of those around here somewhere...
Mine runs a rebuilt stock head, clifford mild cam, higher compression, an offy intake, stovebolt headers, and a few other things I'm forgetting. All bolted up to a T56 and 4.56s, really fun little car. Now you're making me guilty about needing to put it back together after paint. I guess that's how I'll spend my Saturday... (Now that I look at it, that's actually the first 250 I had, but the built one looks exactly the same save valve cover that won't fit because of the ARP headstuds.) There is a good site dedicated to Novas called Steve's Nova Site, there are few guys running built sixes but it takes a little looking to find their threads.
