1987 1/2 ton Truck 4WD Power Window and Lock Problem
First post here as I just found my truck in February and am starting to tackle some small projects on it. The project I am on now are the power windows and door locks. The Passenger side window works but is very very slow and the drivers side will only work in very short increments - for example I can lower it about 1.5 inches and then have to wait a while before I can lower more or raise back up. I did order some new motors but not sure if I jumped the gun. I can return if needed. I also am not sure if it might be the regulator or something else?
And about my power door locks - I have accidentally pushed down on the door lock inside the truck and at times the switches wont unlock or it may take a few times or so to get them to work. Thanks in advance for your help. I also posted a picture of my truck - just put some 33 x 10.5 x 15 BFGs |

Any help in leading me to the correct way to diagnose the problem and how to fix I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Re: 1987 1/2 ton Truck 4WD Power Window and Lock Problem
I had the same problems with my 83, slow windows and driver power door lock hangs up, I replaced the power motors and regulators on both doors, they were the originals and they were pretty wore out, not too hard to do, just take your time, after doing mine they work like new, fast up and down, while you have the door opened up it's easy to get to the door locks, tighten everything up and will work as advertised

So do you need to replace the regulators as well when replacing the motors?
I did order door lock actuators in case I needed them when I had everything opened up. Any thoughts on replacing these as well? I will probably try tightening everything up like you say and see how it works. |

I had the same problem with my windows on my 87. After a while the driver door quit alltogether. Replaced just the motors and no problems since.
