Mounting a CD Deck ?
I am in the middle of the paint and body process. I would like to CUT the dash. I need some info on how to mount the deck like how? What holds it in there? Do you buy brackets? I think that I need to fill in the edges of the old radio knob indents. I don't think that when I cut the dash that the deck will need to have the whole area cut. And I will end up with 2 half circles on each coroner of the deck.

I just slid the holder in there and bent the tabs. It held the weight in place no problem.
Filling the depressions is a good idea. It is not too noticeable, but if you can see it, you'll see it every time you look at it. Some stereos will hide it all. Notice the gap at the botom of my cutting, this is not seen once the stereo is in place. But it may be an issue to you. (may not be though) |

When I installed my CD player, I went to a local aftermarket audio place and got a larger bezel that goes around the headunit. I can't exactly remember if I had to put it on before the mounting sleeve, or if it just snapped on, but it hit the recessed part of the dash. I just put in the mounting sleeve and bent the tabs, no probs at all.

I did the same thing as you guys...put in the mounting sleeves and bent the tabs and it works great. Only like a 45 minute install...pretty easily.
My dash was hacked when i got the truck...and pretty gad too. It is like 1/4" off center, and uneven

I mounted mine in the glovebox and went with the stock radio in the dash but I have seen alot mounted in the dash that are not that noticable.
