Running kinda funny
Having issues, when I take off slowly the engine kinda hesitates and sputters, runs fine going down the road, I did notice when it was a little bit warmer out it did not hesitate for a couple days but then it started again when the temp outside went down, maybe a coincidence but any info would help. Not much of a gearhead so please explain on my level. Thanks

Re: Running kinda funny
A bunch of stuff could be doing it. I guess first off are you seeing it when the engine is fully up to temp? And what temp is it running at? I run a 195 thermostat in mine. All of my trucks will be a bit sluggish if not to full temp.

Re: Running kinda funny
What engine are you running? The more info the better. Point's? Carb? age and millage? When did this start? Sorry for the long list of questions just trying to nail it down a bit.

Re: Running kinda funny
Could be a timing issue or a lean carb/faulty acceleration pump issue on the carburetor. Also the choke could be partway closed too.

Re: Running kinda funny
The hose running over to your vacuum advance could be older / dry rotted and may have developed a small crack. If the engine is warmer, the hose is warmer too and the crack is not as noticeable to the engine. If it's really cold the hose shrinks a little, cracks open up and the vacuum leak becomes an issue. May explain why you never noticed it until it got really cold.
(total guess) .. but I'd replace that hose and see if it clears up. Have you made any changes to the engine recently? just a daily driver? It does sound like vacuum advance issues to me, just my first thought anyway.

Re: Running kinda funny
It is a 1970 c10 with a 350 engine and edlebrock carb! Which hose would that be, there are two small ones coming off the front of the carb and I believe a larger one as well

Re: Running kinda funny
are you burning oil? if one cylinder isn't on par with the rest, the result is similar to what you describe.

Re: Running kinda funny
The hose Chad is talking about is the one going from the front of the carb to the distributor.
You say it hesitates when you take off slowly. What happens when you punch it? Same hesitation? Paul

Re: Running kinda funny
Try cleaning your carb (while running, spray bursts of carb cleaner in carb), maybe replace your plugs and wires. Then see if it still happens.

Re: Running kinda funny
Post a picture of your carb and distributor taken from the passenger front corner looking back toward the firewall. I'll point out which hose it would be.
Pull the hose off even,.. bend it under a good light and see if it might be a bit brittle. It could also be the vacuum advance as well as other good ideas above. Which Edelbrock carb do you have?
