Re: 85 chevy 350 single cab heater/ defrost ?
when I got mine it had a big rats nest at the heater core, it blew air like a hurricane on clod, but turn it to hot and you barely got any air. once I cleaned it out, it will run you out.

Re: 85 chevy 350 single cab heater/ defrost ?
Do like Motornut said and pull the glovebox and if you need to then pull the duct that is for the vents so you can see what is going on when moving the levers on the control panel. I just went through this with mine. Half of the duct work was missing along with a white plastic clip that was broke keeping the blend door from opening and shutting. Get in there and take a look is the best thing you can do. This will let you "see" what is going on and will also allow you to learn and see how it all works.

Re: 85 chevy 350 single cab heater/ defrost ?
Always do the simplest things first. If you will drain your radiator, then take both heater hoses off the heater core and hook up a water hose and check the flow from the core. Rule this out first. It may be the issue. After you rule this out, then you can start checking other things. There may be issues with your dash controller. I have seen where the controller was not getting the vacuum that it needs. Check the vacuum to rule it out. Hope this helps.

Re: 85 chevy 350 single cab heater/ defrost ?
So of course I didn't get a chance till today while it's snowing. But anyhow I got the glove box door off. I can tell the first linkage piece wasn't moving all the way open to close with out my hand moving it. Is there away to adjust it. If you y'all could help me from here as to what I can do next.

Re: 85 chevy 350 single cab heater/ defrost ?
Try using WD-40 in the cable first before removing. Then if this does not work, you may want to take it off and replace it with a new cable. Also there may be a rats nest stopping it from closing all the way. Only if the truck has been setting for a while. (Just a thought). Most of these trucks the cables will rust a little and keep them from working properly. Hope this will help.

Re: 85 chevy 350 single cab heater/ defrost ?
If the radiator was frozen, then the core may be frozen up also. Try flushing the core out before changing it. The heater core is not easy to change.

If it is higher than the outside temp it will gel and may freeze solid. As mentioned get a bulb anti freeze tester and see where your freeze point is.

Re: 85 chevy 350 single cab heater/ defrost ?
The truck will have to go into a heated shop to thaw out and then do a pressure test on the cooling system to see if there is a problem.

Re: 85 chevy 350 single cab heater/ defrost ?
So I have to change my heater core. Well when I went to do it I snapped my cooler cover which they don't make anymore. All because I didn't see the bottom screw. Is there any easy way to get to the bottom screw? And or seance I have to go to a junk yard and hope they have one there can some one tell me which screws all have to come off cause it looked like when I was doing it Right and it seemed I had to take the cover off. Dang this sucks and it's only -1 out side

Re: 85 chevy 350 single cab heater/ defrost ?
Thanks again. I just didn't see that bottom nut it's in an odd spot you can't see it seance it's behind the wheel well arch. They should've just installed the nuts on the reverse side in the cab so you could see them all or something thanks again
