Great deal on new crate engine
Just thought I'd pass this along.
When I was looking at possibly buying a new motor for my truck I was a little disappointed, but not surprised, that they had gone up $3-400 in price... since I last looked in 2008. So I saved Jegs listing on ebay, and just happened to look last night, and it was $1,207.99 with free shipping. That's the lowest price they've had in a long time (if you look at the sold history, they do routinely lower the price) and the best price I've seen from other sellers. Free shipping too. So now I've got the new motivation for the C10. http://www.ebay.com/itm/400444180233...84.m1423.l2649

Re: Great deal on new crate engine
if you are going to install a crate engine , why use a low HP stock engine??
I do understand people have budget issues , different drivablity concerns but for 3K you get a good 400Hp performing engine , from year one and others

Re: Great deal on new crate engine
I don't understand why everyone thinks you have to have a high HP truck?
My truck scoots right along with it's current worn out 350. It moved along just fine when it was a 250 straight 6 too. I don't want or need a High HP motor. 3K is ANOTHER $1,800 dollars. THEN with that kind of HP my 700R will burn up and I'll have to spend ANOTHER 3K to buy one that can handle that kind of power. I got what I wanted Unless you're offering to pay the extra $4,800 I'll need to have 150 more HP?

Re: Great deal on new crate engine
The truck has HEI now with an edelbrock 1406 4 barrel, and I have a brand new edelbrock performer intake I've been wanting to install forever on it, and it has a true dual exhaust system on it

Re: Great deal on new crate engine
I'm not crazy about horsepower either. It's a truck, not a musclecar.
Now if I change out my 4.11 rear end for a 3.73 then maybe I'll need more power to run these WV hills but until then, the 250 I6 stays. |

Re: Great deal on new crate engine
I think "hot rodding" has always inferred a high horsepower engine. Im an old school hot rodder-------But, I also live in 2013 with $3.00 a gal. gas. If (IF), Im just going to do a little street cruising and some showing--Why would I need high horsepower? In one of our trucks (unless you load the rear end heavily), you cant get traction with a stock motor let alone 400-500 hp.
Just saying----why????

Re: Great deal on new crate engine
Wow, that is a great price. Heck, had I seen that before I rebuilt the I-6 250 in my wagon, I would have likely done a V8 swap.
Great find!!!

Any specific cam swaps that could really wake this engine up that anyone has experience with?

Re: Great deal on new crate engine
Couple questions for those that bought them...
My flywheel is getting pretty old and they're fairly cheap, does anyone have the correct P/N for one for a 700R. I also have a 2 o clock balancer/timing tab on my current motor, what's recommended for these motors? P/N? I don't want to reuse my balancer.
