73-81 w/LT1

Anyone have pics? I think I'm going to do this when the 350 says goodbye. I can get the Painless harness SUPER cheap at work, so I figure why not? I'll get a lot better mileage, and of course the kewlness factor will be high.

Why not the LS1? It's a much better motor.

LT1 is cheaper to get parts for and cheaper to wire. Plus its a TQ and midrange motor, unline the LS1 wich is a more highend HP motor. LT1 would definitely have a better home in a truck.

Its just gonna look funny sitting between the framerails so low
The injection makes it look flat as a pankake. But its definitely cool!

I've had two Lt-1 trucks. The other was much prettier to look at but I don't have any pics of it.

Well, I'm going to end up Z'ing the frame also, and this will help with hood clearance. I was gonna throw in a TBI out of a little older truck, but might as well get a bit more power. I agree with rolf 100% also. They are a lil cheaper, and better lower RPM power.

Brad2..........what advice would you have for someone doing this? What tranny did you have in the truck before? Same crossmember?

Thanks guys.....keep em comin. I searched LT1, but the only things comin up were the 67-72 guys.

I had a turbo 400 before. I has a 4l60e now. Same crossmember just moved back a little. The other truck had a 700r4 with corvette servos. They drove very differently because the 700r4 shifted pretty hard. The 4l60e is nearly transpearant. Pretty much like a new vehicle.

Advice: Buy the painless harness! Deceide if you want the fuel pump in the tank or on the frame rail. You will have to modify the tail housing on the 4l60e to run your speedometer. I am sure several places sell them. Unless you run aftermarket or corvette brackets you will have to trim the frame rail to get the a/c compressor in there.

Nice. I have a 350/350C now. I am going to lose the bottom 1 1/2 or less of my frame when I z the front, so I will have to make a new crossmember anyway I suppose. I have my firewall shaved anyway, so I wont have to worry about the A/C compressor clearance with the frame. I will probably end up getting a fuel cell in the bed, so I will get one that I can drop an 87 or so sending unit/pump in and run it that way. Again, thanks a bunch for the info.

Oh yeah, I can use the stock LT1 engine mounts with the stock truck rubber mounts, right?

yep. I think the pass. side one is back about 1/2" or so, to clear the A/C compressor (at least in a b-body)

You can always do the Castrol Syntec commercial. Change the oil with Syntec, run the motor for a bit, drain it, and run it again dry. See how long your motor REALLY lasts.

brad2, how is the lt1 working out for you? How about the optispark? I would love an lt1 or ls1 someday for my truck.

Everytime I drive my truck I am glad I have that motor and trans. Not that it is a hot motor but it runs decent and is dependable. So far I have not had any trouble with the optispark. I don't hose the motor off at the car wash either so maybe that helps:p I still have the VATS hooked up so even though it is sitting in the driveway it doesn't concern me that someone is going to be able to drive it off.

It is not nearly as nice as the pics look. Basically just a beater with some decent parts. It won't always be that way though.

What exhaust you got on that badboy? I know you can get an LT1 to have a very original unique tone.

If only I was made of money, then id have 20's and airride
