Por-15
Painted the 454 today with POR-15 engine paint.
This stuff is the cat's azz! Tough, glossy, doesn't scratch..... Worth every penny.

Wow.....looks nice. How much for a can? My 350 looks like crap.....30k miles on a rebuild and it looks like it has 100k on the clock. Detailing it is somewhere in my future....and i want it to last this time.

I went ahead and painted the Edelbrock intake to match. I'm going for that stock look.
Lucas, it's a whole kit with 2 kinds of cleaner and everything. Cost is 39 bucks. The pictures are terrible. Those little dots all over the place are rusty bolts I stuck into all of the holes. I have literally 20 plus hours of work into cleaning this engine. It's clean in places you can't see. The whole 39 dollar kit did the complete engine, water pump and harmonic balancer. I also had enough left over to do several sets of small block valve covers too (I'm a collector/ pervert of old vintage speed equipment).

Progress pics?
Here's the trans that's going behind it. A full-on TH400. I use a place called Phoenix transmission. They have ads in all of the magazines. Anyway, they are about 5 miles from me and they build all my trannys. This one has absolutley the best of everything. There are even some 4L80E parts in it too. He told me it was warrantied for 3 years, unlimited mileage, no matter what I did to the engine. Exact quote was "I don't care what big block you bolt to it, nitrous, blower, whatever, it'll last!"

Casey, you do brush it on, and the brush strokes just go away. POR says right in the instructions that brushing is recomended. You should see my core support that I did it on. Looks stunning. POR recomends that you use their whole process from start to finish, including degreaser and metal etch. I sandblast some stuff and wire brush other stuff.
Dano, my truck is ugly. I've posted pics of it here before. 34 year old original paint is kind of beat. It is lowered with all new suspension though. "It might be ugly, but it sure is slow! ![]() |
