Problems installing New LMC tailgate?

Hey guys, I bought a new LMC Tailgate for my 69 C10. But I'm having difficult time mounting/bolting the handle to the tailgate itself?

What I think the problem is: When they built the tailgate the holes you put the screws through the tailgate to screw into the tailgate handle on the inside of the tailgate "were mounted to high".

The holes in the main tailgate were to high because when I put the screws in and it's bolted down the handle gets caught on the upper side of the tailgate where the handle is pulled out through when I try opening it?

Anybody else had problems with this? Ideas to fix? My best bet is to dremel/file out the main holes in the tailgate to drop the mount down allowing room for the handle to be pulled out when it's bolted a little lower?

Not to sound like an ass but that is funny. If he calls LMC they won't have a clue what he is even talking about... There will just be silence on the phone for about 3 minutes, then they will say "We don't provide technical assistance". That is why I don't buy anything from them...

I would just enlarge them enough so it will clear...

Your absolutely right. However a call is needed even if only to voice displeasure of a poor fitting part. Most people don't call and just live with the poor parts and that's why quality never gets better. If enough folks complained they would at least look at the issue. I suspect the only ears that hear of issues with this vendor are on this board.

I agree with that 100% and I have done that. I have called and emailed to try and get them to correct illustration errors in their catalog and they won't even do that.

Re: Problems installing New LMC tailgate?

I was even Standing in LMC showroom and all of those guys are total asses... I refuse to buy from them unless they are the only one that has the part available... I really like the guys over at Classic Parts of America in Riverside Missouri... They are great to deal with... I have spent over 5K with them...

Re: Problems installing New LMC tailgate?

hahahaa You guys are awesome and funny!!!

Yeah I've just began to start demeling the holes a little bigger where I'll cover the with a bigger washer and paint them the color of the tailgate when finalized, that's once the space is big enough.
Yeah, I agree on explaining issues to them. But also agree I've had that said to me: "Were not sure?" lol

Early classic: yes, I just bought the 4/6 drop and shock through them! Love em!

Thanks guys!

Re: Problems installing New LMC tailgate?

From looking at the picture it is aftermarket also I would try a original tailgate handle. Is the tailgate lettered or plain ?
