I'm wet behind the ears when it comes to auto mechanics

Every time i start a project even if it's as simple as new ball joints i get the sinking feeling wondering if i'll get it back on the road! So far so good though and i'm learning lots from you guys.

I'm not sure that the truck or car would be a deal breaker but I'm really tired of working in that .... grass, losing screws and washers in that itchy stuff at least now I have a paved driveway to work in I really need a roof and walls with lights I really like lighting ....my eyes have gone bad the last few years I'm not taking on an other project with out a real concrete floor shop with air 110 and 220 power also a place to keep my tools, I'm tired as .... looking half the afternoon for something that's in a trunk or upstairs or in some shed or maybe under the seat of the truck it sure as .... not in the tool boxes I've been keeping it in.

Sorry for the rant but a deal breaker, I just sold a 50 Chevy that I bought on a impulse because I didn't have any place to work on it.

Everything on my truck that I was afraid of was way easier than I was dreaming it to be. I worried about: ls swap, ball joints/tie rods, fixing rust... I don't really enjoy any of it but I know I will enjoy the end result! And the thing with these old machines is you can't buy what you want. So it must be built and most don't have the money to have someone else build it.

I'm with R.L. I feel your pain...This also wasn't a deal breaker for me, but there were many times I would wonder aloud why in the world I decided to tackle a large project OUTDOORS. Oh, I have a garage, but it was occupied by too much other stuff to clean out at the time. So....my "shop" was out in the woods, amongst all the semi decomposed leaves, pine needles, and other various debris. Not to mention the numerous rocks and stones that always seemed to be right where I needed to kneel at any given moment.

So, if I dropped a nut or bolt, I'd be down on all fours combing through leaves and dirt looking for it... The kicker though, was when I pulled the 3 spd Saginaw and put in a 4 spd overdrive. I had the truck up on jackstands, but it wasn't exactly level...didn't really matter since the terrain on the side of my house is a little sloped. ..I formed out a makeshift concrete pad in order to have something solid and flat to roll a floorjack on..This enabled me to fabricate a cradle to hold my new tranny that adapted to the cup of the floorjack. It was crude looking, but functional. I got the tranny in, but due to the fact that virtually NOTHING was plumb or level, it was a nightmare of a job. (use your imagination to picture it in your mind, and try not to laugh too hard)

Yes, this. All of it. Spaced mine out over 5 months due to frustration and not knowing how the Porterbuilt dropmembers were configured, so I didn't want to needlessly remove something by mistake.

Those rivets are no joke.
