Hood lifting, some advice please
Hi all,
I got my hood lifting at the back by the windshield. Im sure this is a common issue, but I am unaware of a fix. Any suggestions appreciated. My thought is a weak spring, I put a set from another truck, but have the same issue. Could be another weak set, but thought I would tap the forum wealth before taking another step. I have included a pic, not the best of the issue, I can get another on if a clearer view is needed.

Re: Hood lifting, some advice please
i have the same problem.ive adjusted the hood hinges as much as possible and replaced springs with other junkyard springs and it still sits up.
my next step is to just buy new hinges and springs and see whats up then. best of luck!

New hinges would be the right way to fix it.
I fixed mine the cheap way and put some washers between the hinge and hood(front bolt). http://www.autobody101.com/content/a...nel-alignment/ |

Hinges definitely help. Swapped em on mine and they helped a lot.

Re: Hood lifting, some advice please
Do they just wear out of what the deal ? My hood does the same thing but the hinges work nice and smooth. If I push the rear corners of the hood down it holds until I drive it again. Do the springs even hold the hood down when its shut?

Re: Hood lifting, some advice please
I read a writeup a while ago where 2 people fixed the issue. One guy pushes the hood up and the other guy loosens the bracket that bolts onto the fender. Then that guy pushes the hood higher, sort of like hyper extending it and then the other guy tightens the hinge back. It worked for me.

Re: Hood lifting, some advice please
I have dealt with this on numerous occasions on many GM vehicles. The answer was posted a few posts back. The hinges need to be dropped in the back, or raised in the front. Loosen the back bolt that goes into the fender, have someone push up on the hood until the hinge rotates downward in the rear, retighten the bolt and check. If this does not do the trick, or it is already bottomed in the rear, try moving the front upward. The hinges "cam over" when they reach the bottom. When they are too high like that in the back, it's because they aren't camming over. That's why adding the washers under the front helps, it's making the hinge cam over.
Good luck, Hope it helps! |
