Rust free drives the price up significantly in the rust belt. In the Southwest you can find rust free older vehicles fairly commonly, but here they are rare. If that truck really has no rust its very desirable.

Give you an idea, I paid $3600 a year ago for my truck. Needed floor boards, rockers, cab corners, and door bottoms. But a short bed (not a cut down longbed), with a running engine, working trans, almost driveable, and a bed full of spare parts, it was a good deal.

Also consider you might be bidding against municipalities that actually want that to use as a brush wagon. Price goes up again.

Personally, if I checked it out and it really was rust free, drives well and has no major mechanical issues, I'd give $8k without a thought.

Idk about 8k but maybe I'm too west coast but 42 years is 42 years no matter where you are. Maintaining a vehicle is key to vale anywhere.
That being said I like the bumper and 4x4. I'd bid if the shipping didn't put me over what I'd consider fair.

Re: another fire truck for sale (in NJ)

Who knows, with a sealed bid sale you may be able to steal it, IF they are really playing by rules and have a deadline for bids, and will abide by the highest bid when they receive it. If it's just "tell us what you want to pay, and we'll let you know if we accept that" they could sit on this thing for a long time until they find PT Barnum's latest sucker.

This isn't a major city, it's a small town, so I would tend to think that they aren't in a rush to sell it and aren't sure what it's worth, so they are putting feelers out.

In other news, I was driving through Kennedyville MD yesterday and saw the fire dept there had a squarebody long bed crew cab 4x4 parked out front with what looks like a for sale sign. Didn't stop to look or take pics, but looked like later 80s (square stacked headlights). Wouldn't fit in my garage anyway LOL.

looks like a really interesting truck. some cab lights and a long bed stepside bed and it would be perfect! love the bumper too!
