Door Panel Recovering

So we have just plain metal that we rattlecanned. Not bad. Stumbled across some leather material in the dumpster! Anyone have luck with recovering the panels? Just glue to the backside then screw down?
Any insight or tips would be awesome!

I would consider a thin layer of closed cell foam between the leather and the metal panels to give a little forgiveness to the leather. If you glue it directly to the metal there will be wear and pinch points that the leather will wear through quickly.

Good call on the foam. I am sure that is easier to attach to the backside as well...

If you have time, then get some Weldwood Contact cement and coat the panel and the foam. Place the foam and trim to the edges of the panel leaving a small amount to allow the leather to pull in tight to the metal panel. When you put the leather on, use the contact cement and stick it to the foam, then stick it to the metal panel after the surface glued to the foam is dry to be sure that you get a good tight stretch of the cover material.

have you thought about doing some hydrographic transfer film ,i took my panels and sandblasted them clean and had them graph film applied ,the print is skulls and smoke
there's a ton of different prints out there

I haven't tried it, but maybe shoot the back w/ 3M or whatever undercoat to damp noise?
