Service Manual - 4th Post

Hey guys,

Looking for a good service manual for my 67 GMC SWB, Stepside truck. I like a book I can hold in my hand and turn the pages. I won't be rebuilding the engine, but would like to know how to do lots of things to the truck. Any recommendations? Thanks!

Re: Service Manual - 4th Post

Welcome to the forum!!

I think the best bet in an original service manual, fleabay is a good source, they come up every once in a while. I also like the Chilton's version and use it more than the factory one. I don't have anything nice to say about the haynes version so I won't.

Post Re : Factory Service Manual - Where To Buy

In the trade these are called " FSM " and yes , they're available new or used , not expen$ive atall , $30 retail IIRC .

Most of the truck parts vendors have them in stock , HELM , INC printed them for GM and sill sells them along with the owner's booklet .

Amazon is also a good place to look , don't be afraid to offer $5 for the greasy dog - eared ones you'll see , the info doesn't go bad from use and most folks won't touch an old dirty book so they're harder to sell .

I just lucked into the illustrated truck parts catalog , now I have to find the other book with the part #'s in it .

Haynes is O.K. , never good as they're riddled with so many inacuracies they're often called " H.B.O.L. " :

Lies

Chilton too , is a bargain basement book but , the more info you have at your fingertips , the easier the job will go .
