Did the metal tailgate strip use some sort of weatherstripping?

I saw a members Blazer today and his has a piece of what looks like weatherstripping running across the outside surface of the metal tailgate strip that seals against the hatch. Did GM ship K5's with this "weatherstripping"?

Thanks, Pete

Nope. Rubber weatherstrip is only on the hatch. It's not uncommon to see where owners have put on some additional rubber in places to try and supplement the old leaking gaskets.

Mine has a a a rubber seal along the inside edge of the tailgate under the carpet strip. It also has similar seals & strips up the C pillars.

Mine had a strip of rubber between the bed and chrome molding holding down the rear carpet.

Thanks guys - I'm wondering about the metal strip that goes across the very top of the tailgate and is painted to match body color. It "seals" against the rubber along the lower hatch.

I don't believe the top strip did. A PO put some foam stripping on mine, but it doesn't look original.

Thanks - that's probably what I was looking at also: a PO putting some weatherstripping across the top strip. Pete

Re: Did the metal tailgate strip use some sort of weatherstripping?

I never removed mine because I figured it may add a little more seal from exhaust fumes. When/if I restore the truck I don't know if I'd put it back on.

Just looked at the lmc catalog. No seal on the pic. Just the window stop screwed to the tailgate.

Yes there is an actual piece of weather stripping that goes in that channel.

Side channels.

I got mine at GMC Pauls

mental note...read post fully.

Mine has no weather stripping there, just the metal strip the hatch seals against.

I just took one off a 1972 blazer out in a junk pile and there was nothing inside it.

Re: Did the metal tailgate strip use some sort of weatherstripping?

(Not Mine) This was a great way to fill the gap if you don't have the original carpet strip.to seal off any exhaust that might come in the back. I saved these photo's...some one put a lot of time in making this Blazer better than new.
