Widest Tires on a '71?
hello, i've got a 1971 c10 fleet side long bed and i'm wondering what would be the widest set of tires i could put on it without shortening the axle. Also, I am planning tubbing it. what offset and back spacing would i need so the tires would not protrude the fender well? any feedback at all would be great!

The real question how much are you going to tub the fenders.

I'm running a 295/40-20 I think I could prob run a 305 if I massaged the inside of the fender well a lil bit. But with no mods I think a 295 is it. But it depends on how low you are as well. I'm dropped 7" in the rear.

Re: Widest Tires on a '71?
i was looking at a 2 in drop in the rear. i want to put mt 29x15.5x15 sportsman pros on to fill out the wheel well. im thinking of adding 4in to the fender well or should i just a tub kit off of jegs? would a 7 1/2 backspace work with that?

Re: Widest Tires on a '71?
I have mine tubbed all the way to the frame and I have test fit a 31x18.5-15 in the opening but have not driven it with them on. I am having a set of steel wheels widened with custom backspacing. The guy that is building my wheels for me swears they will fit and not hit the springs.
Mine is still stock ride height for now. just my $0.02

Re: Widest Tires on a '71?
Sorry, I missed the question.
We took a stock 6 lug rim and it is being widened to 17 inches. It will have 9.25 inches of back spacing. I am currently looking for '68 hubcaps which is why I kept the stock rim, plus steel wheels look better. I didn't want to narrow my rear end or frame rails either. The deep dish look is not something I need, just enough tire to fill up the fender wells.
