Since your sig says 72 and the front looks like a 71-72 I'll assume you have the wider rearend. Beautiful truck and just about the look I'm going for. Any pics from a rear angle?

Yeah killer looking truck screamin. What size tires you running front and rear, and to achieve the 8" drop out back did you have to cut anything out of the bed floor for your notches?

One last question for you guys! If i decided to go with a 22" wheel in the rear what sie would i need to go with. Would i still go 10" with 5.5 backspace, and what size tire would you go with?? Just trying to figure it all out before i make the plunge!

Yes, I would run the same backspace for a 20' as a 22". Tire size depends on personal preference, but take a look at a 285/35/22.

Looking to run 15x10 Aero Wheels with 275/60R15 tires all around on my 67. Haven't measured the rear end yet but its already got a 5on5 swap. Going with a static coil over Touring DM up front and Mild DM out back. Possible to run the same backspacing on all four wheels? Recommended BS? Not running inner front fenders and want it as wide as possible.

Hey guys,
I know this one is a little older but with all the knowledge in here I'm wondering if anyone can recommend backspacing and tire size for my truck. I am working on a 67 GMC 1500 stepside. I am installing the porterbuilt extreme dropmember front and rear and am looking to run 18's up front and 20's in the rear. Hopefully with widths of 8-8.5 up front and 9.5-10 in the rear. It has the factory narrow rear end under it and it will have the narrowed and centered porterbuilt A arms. Also I would prefer a dished look in the rear if possible. Hopefully this is enough info for a good starting point. Thanks and have a great day.

If it was me I'd run at least 5.25bs on the front and 5"bs on the back..

Just read on a build post for a stepside and I guess in order to lay frame I must narrow my axle xomething like 8.5 inches. Guess I have more money to spend till this thing gets rolling. This will obviously effect backspacing. Thanks for the assistance.

Narrowing the rear is only necessary depending on how much 'dish' you want/need. It is not necessary though. Modifying the step side fenders, mini-tubbing, or narrowing might be necessary to lay out w/a wide wheel that has a tall-ish tire.

For 18/20's... I'd do 18x8's w/5.25"bs & 20x8.5's w/about 5" or so BS. I would always recommed measuring your truck for the final number since @ any point in it's life cycle someone could have changed parts out from what was originally there.

This is the best advice, especially when it comes to investing a good chunk of change on a set of wheels and tires.

We are asked the backspacing question on a daily basis and always give the same response... we tell people what we have ran, and also what others have ran, but always specify and emphasize, that when stepping up to the plate on an investment like wheels and tires... measure yourself to confirm fitment. These trucks are not all the exact same, and often times there are discrepancies in the body fitment by up to an inch (that we have seen). That could definitely ruin somebody's day after dropping all that coin for a wheel that doesn't fit "just right".

What I would recommend in this situation (it's what we do here) is order the rear wheels you want first, then make the rear-end the proper width.

You will have to narrow the rear end anyways.... so buy the wheels with the size lip you want, mock them up under the bed to where they clear how you would like, then measure the distance between the mounting faces and you will know the width the rear end needs to be.

It might sound like it's working backwards... but it's really the most efficient way to go.

I was thinking about that this morning. I will likely narrow it as much as possible to have as much dish as possible. Thanks for all the info guys.

The steppers have less room in the fender wells vs. a fleet side. Nate & SCOTI have good points in measuring to ensure it is all going to work, especially since you are laying frame with a stepper.

If you are planning to narrow the rear end, then definitely agree to buying rear wheels first before narrowing, as mentioned. I also suggest getting the rear tire as well, so you have your overall total width, since tires will slightly change your width, depending on size.
