Oil pickup position
Hey friends, first time doing this and it doesnt seem right to me. When i have 1/4in pan clearance, this is the pickup angle. The front 1/2 of pickup with[IMG][/IMG] screen is more than an inch above bottom of pan. Stock pan. Cant get ahold of anyone around here, I'll be looking for replies[IMG][/IMG]

Re: Oil pickup position
An hour later. I do have a problem, it cant be installed this way. I figured stock, 4qt, but stroker relieved pan from Summit, and stock oil pump and pickup would jive. But pump and pickup are Melling not GM (but you'd think what Melling calls stock would be oem match), whatever, I need shallower pickup or deeper pan, so off to parts stores to find pickup about !/2in shallower. Dont want to have to order or pay for deep pan. I dug out used, chrome pan I have that fits the 1969 2pc rms, they are both 7 1/2in deep, so no go there either. Annnd, 1998 1pc rms I bought at junkyard is also 7 1/2in deep.

Re: Oil pickup position
I had Melling 55-S2 pickup, needed 55-S1. 55-S1 tube is flat w screen. Screen ended up being tilted ever so slightly into oil at bottom of pan w 1/4 to 3/8 clearance. Freak out/anxiety stage over.

Re: Oil pickup position
THIS....is is how it should look and how it does look w correct Melling 55-S1 screen pickup. Screen will have 1/4in pan clearance and I put small tack weld on tube to keep it from moving. S-2 screen must be for deeper pan or 'truck pan'. I am building a 78 C-15 but guess I bought 'car' pan. Oh well. The oil pump itself is a Melling M-55. Still a lot to do but see my 'New Old Guy' thread for rest of build. (mounting plate on engine stand was starting to STRAIN for sure, you can see where I added gussets. I know it's sagging but all safe now)[IMG][/IMG]
