1950 suburban
Here is my 1950 Chevy carry-all suburban. This burban has been in my family since 1982 when my dad traded his 1967 Chevy pickup for it. Mom said she was mad at my dad for a couple of days. My dad would use the suburban to drive people to fields to work. I started to work on it when I was a sophomore in high school and drove it till I graduated. I've been working on it on and off for the passed years but now want to get it out on the streets. I had the suburban sub-framed and went from the 235 to a 305 engine. Now I want to start working on the interior. The question is how could I mold the carpet over the firewall bump with out cutting the carpet. I want to install the carpet myself.

Re: 1950 suburban
If its the polypropylene stuff, made from recycled pop bottles, good hot day, and a heat gun, put it in upside down, and heat it up, then use sand bags or something like that to hold it down till it cools, do not get it too hot so as to melt it. Once it cools, take it out and turn it over the bump will reverse. Try a scrap first. You can try a cloths iron as well, but use a towel to keep it from sticking, wet the towel and wring it out, you are steaming it into the new shape.

WUSS721-
How well did the carpet lay out over the trans tunnel? Did you cut the carpet in peices to install or it is one long run. I'm getting ready to lay some carpet down in my truck so I was curious. I assume that you glued it down to the floor (or jute). Looks good. Marc

Re: 1950 suburban
I did not cut the carpet. I took all that was left over and put it out in the sun. It was almost 80 degrees over here so that helped a lot. I started from the middle and work myself to the sides. The bump on the firewall came out well. I think it would be easier with two people working on it one to be pulling the carpet and the other one laying it flat. I used the loctite spray adhesive. It works better than the one you would pick up at autozone.

Re: 1950 suburban
I went out to Pomona this weekend and picked up some part for my suburban. I also put my seats in the suburban. I will leave them tan for awhile I just want to drive it around. The front bucket seats are out of a 2003 Chevy silverado and the rear seats are out of a 1997 Chevy Tahoe.

Re: 1950 suburban
Here is some thing that I'm debating on. I bought these aluminum strips from one of the supervisors at work. I had the red cardboard and took one off to checkout how it looks.

Re: 1950 suburban
Thanks for checking out my thread. Just have not had time to finish the inside with work and this crazy weather. But I'll post more picture when I do something else. I'm also making other little inserts out of the aluminum sheet.

Re: 1950 suburban
I've been working on the suburban on and off due to working on my house. Here is what I came up with the left over aluminum sheet. I had the aluminum sheet bent before I installed it I cut a piece of angle iron to put down. The angle iron was used so the the aluminum wouldnt bent. It came out good I think. I also hooked up some relays to my head lights way brighter
