1984 C10 emissions in AZ!?
Hey yall!! It's been forever since I've been on here. But I'm having an issue! I bought my c10 last year and it had already been through emissions so I didn't need to take it to get it plated. Well now I need to plated again and its due for emissions. I took it through the other day and it failed..
I talked to the previous owner about it and he said he didn't even take it through emissions, he had his mechanic do it.. on the paper he had the truck passed with flying colors, but it was a Retest, his first test failed just as bad as it did the other day. Well we changed the oil in it, put a new air filter on it and put a bottle of alcohol In the tank and put gas in it, and it failed again... Worse this time! Idk what to do. The mechanics retest was half of everything. Idk what he did but I'm stumped. This is my daily driver and I need it to pass! It passes equipment and Hydrocarbons and Oxides of nitrogen, but it doesn't pass carbon monoxide.. Idk what to do! Help! It's got a 350 auto with a Holley carb. |

Check to see if the mechanic got a one time waiver to pass then sell it. If you can scan the emission test slip and post it here, some of the guys on this board are pretty sharp in resolving issues.

If you can insure it from Hagerty or any of the collector car companies its emissions exempt in AZ.
There are some limitations with the policy— like you have to have a primary vehicle, but i just did this with an 80c10 that had an inline 6. I dropped in a big block with no smog junk whatsoever and it was easy. No more ADEQ, no more emissions. Might be an option. Good luck!

Geez! What's the cutoff for emissions testing in Phoenix? (How old does a vehicle have to be to be exempt)?
Your truck is going on 30 years old - seems like that would be good enough. K

When Utah implemented emissions testing eons ago, the cut off was 1967 and older(my parents had to emission their 1968 VW Bug). To this day, the cut off is still 1967-with the exception of vehicles 30 years and older licensed as "Vintage", but technically a "Vintage" tagged vehicle can't be driven for daily use(car shows, weekends, etc.). |

I lived in Phoenix for four years but at that time my truck was new (or a year old) so passing emissions was no problem. K
