l6 clutch linkage to v8

I have a 64 c10 with a l6 230 with a 4 speed.I want to swap in a 400 sbc, it does not have anything tapped in the side of the block.I was told that 400 sbc did not come from the factory with manuals behind them.I want to know what I have to do to keep the 4 speed and make it work behind the 400 sbc.I also know I have to get a flywheel for the 400, what do I have to do to get the clutch linkage to work.

Is there a boss for it that is just not tapped?

There is a boss that is not tapped.On the l6 there is a standoff for the clutch that is bolted onto the block, I dont know how to incorporate that clutch linkage onto the 400 sbc.

Unbolt the pivot ball from your I-6 bracket, drill and tap your 400 block and install the pivot. once engine is in, then install the z-bar and linkage. Since you have belllhousing mounts nothing there will change. It's not as bad as it looks, LOL!

THat is true that GM did not put a manual trans behind a SB400. Consequently the clutch ballstud bosses were not usually drilled and tapped. I agree with tincan1966, you'll have to drill and tap the forward boss. Then you can screw in the ballstud.

they are rare but they did put manual trans behind sb 400 i put manual behind my 400 and did not have to drill the boss and got a GM 400 flywheel in fact we put a manual in a friends suburban with 350 and it shook like hell.. found out that the flywheel the wrecking yard sold us was out of a 400 and they wanted it back because they are so rare we told them we were keeping it for the trouble of having to change out to a 350 wheel so then i had one for my truck

Aren't 400's externally balanced on the flywheel and damper (front damper and ring gear matched to the specific block)?
If you put another flywheel on that 400 you are going to have to get the rotating assembly balanced.

yes the 400 is externally balanced both flywheel and harmonic balancer no you dont have to have all the parts balanced as a set....maybe if you want to turn 12000 rpm

Thanks for the input guys,I am trying to do the v8 swap as low cost as I can.I want to swap a modern tranny in the truck later on ,as of now I am trying to keep the costs down.This is the linkage I want to adapt to the 400 sbc.

you use everything except for that bracket coming off the block with the ball stud. you can buy the ballstud new for a sbc and that threads into the side of the block. you can find one in the LMC cataloque. perhaps you can still get them from the dealer.
