power steering conversion problem
so first off forgive me if I'm being a noob.im trying to figure out how to put power steering in my 69 and I got a power steering gear box from a friend off a 83 c10, I got all the hoses and the pump. problem is the alternator in my truck is on the driver side and I would like to switch it to the passenger side to have more room and make a bracket for my pump on the drivers side. I can't find anywhere to mount the alternator to on the passenger side. it doesnt look like it'll mount anywhere. ill post a picture in s minute. if you have pictures of this setup I'd appreciate if some one posted.

Re: power steering conversion problem
It looks like you have a short water pump, so you will have to get custom brackets.

Re: power steering conversion problem
To relocate the alternator to the passenger side, you would need to find the alternator and PS brackets off of a newer engine that used a long water pump. You would also need to replace the water pump with a long pump and use the correct pulleys. it is an easy conversion and parts should be fairly easy to find.

Re: power steering conversion problem
That is why you need custom brackets. Engines with long water pumps have the alternator on the right hand side but the upper bracket bolts to water pump and one intake mounting bolt as well. The single bolt hole in the head where your ground cable is bolted would be the bottom mounting hole for the alternator. With your short water pump, the pulleys will not align if you use the brackets for long water pump.

Re: power steering conversion problem
Yes, the long water pump will bolt right up, but the pulleys will not line up correctly.
The easiest way would be to go to a junk yard and find a 73 or newer truck and get all of the correct brackets and pulleys to use with the long water pump.

Re: power steering conversion problem
I use the same one on my big block. I like the clean look. The website link also has the power steering bracket for 60 i think. I cant tell by looking at your pump if its a short or not. But if it is just buy a long pump. I think there 3/4" differnce. I think the crank pulley is the same just diff. pulley for the water pump. Not sure though. In the photo you can just see the top of my alternator.
