Re: 69 Blazer Hatch rattle
Are you missing the strip on the tailgate ? Maybe you need to adjust the latch catches.

Re: 69 Blazer Hatch rattle
x2. My K5 lacked the strip when I bought it and the hatch rattle was quite noticeable. Adding the strip went a long way to reduce the noise. Later I added the missing rubber bumpers (one from you IIRC) and now the hatch is solid with very little noise. What hatch parts might you be missing if any?

Re: 69 Blazer Hatch rattle
I don't think I am missing any parts. It must have drove the original owner nuts too because there are make shift pads and rub strips all around the hatch. The hatch is not centered in the opening for one thing. I think there are fore and aft adjustments on the upper hinges but not sure. Here are a few pics.

Re: 69 Blazer Hatch rattle
Huh, it does look complete. How's the gasket quality? All the bolts tight? Are the rubber bumpers doing anything or need to be tweaked for better contact with the hatch? Is the tailgate loose or malaligned?

Re: 69 Blazer Hatch rattle
I don't see these "brackets" on your hatch. Not sure if these are what contact the rubber bumpers or not (my K5 isn't here at moment to check) or if absence would increase noise:

Re: 69 Blazer Hatch rattle
I confirmed this on my hatch asolde. Yours is missing those cover peices on both sides of your hatch and they ride on the rubber peices when hatch is closed. Good eye Pete.

Re: 69 Blazer Hatch rattle
Thanks Derek - maybe the absence contributes to the rattle. I have a spare set of these somewhere.

Re: 69 Blazer Hatch rattle
You bet Alex - here's the set I have. These haven't been cleaned and show light surface rust - I believe they'll clean up very nicely.
I'd part with them for $30 shipped after I check my hatch to make sure I do have them I once sold a fuel neck cover in great shape not realizing I needed one for my K5

Re: 69 Blazer Hatch rattle
The long rods inside the hatch that run from the T-handle to the catches on either side can rattle too if you don't have the little foam deadeners on them anymore.

Re: 69 Blazer Hatch rattle
To see the rods you have to remove the access panel under the t-handle. You can kind of see them if you use a little mirror to see inside the hatch. If you can't see them, then you can un-clip the rod ends from the t-handle cam and unbolt the catch mechanisms on the sides of the hatch and pull the mechanisms out. The rods will be clipped to the mechanisms. The foam deadeners are little foam blocks that are attached to the rods.

Re: 69 Blazer Hatch rattle
I wish they made hatch parts aftermarket. It is very limited and the rwpop hatch itself I heard is a piece of crap as well. It's good we can find stuff from other members that still works good here.
