Any 6 Cylinder 4x4's out there?
I'm just looking through my Chevrolet books.
It says that the 292 CI L6 was an optional engine for the K10 and K20 models (except Blazer). I've never seen a 4x4 that didn't have a V-8 in it. Has anyone got one? Seen one? Any pics? That must be pretty rare.

Yep, there's a little shortbed stepside 72 4x4 running around our area. Not sure if its a 250 or 292 though.

My brother recently bought a 72 Blazer with a 6 in it. I don't know whether it's a 292 or a 250.

Thanks, according to the book the 250 was not an option for the 4x4 so you must have the 292 in it.
You can tell the difference between a 250 and 292 by where the fuel pump is located on the right hand side of the engine. If it is a 250 then the fuel pump is in front of the engine mount. If it's a 292 then the fuel pump is to the rear of the engine mount. I like 6 cyl's. I wonder if a 292 with 4.10's would be underpowered in a K20...

The straight six is gonna have a lot of torque, but it's not gonna want to rev. My 69 had the 250 with the 3 on the tree and 3.73 rears. I could pull anything I hooked to, but I only got it over 85 mph once and that was downhill with a tailwind.

According to my Service Manual, you couldnt get an inline six with a GMC 4x4 (at least in '69). You could get the base model, the KM/1500 or KM/2500, which was V6 4x4. Then was the KE/1500 and KE/2500, which were V8 4x4's.
According to ColoradoK5.com's info page, you can get the 292 in certain years of blazer, but I have heard from other members that you couldn't get a 292 in a blazer, and I must say I've never seen one. Maybe someone else can help here.

6 CYL
Ok I have a 6 cylinder 250 in my 70 suburban 4x4.Don't know how it pulls yet cause i aint drove it yet no sure of the gearing yet but soon enough I have to replace the rear axle seals so I'll be lookin while I'm fixin.I'd say there probably 4:11's.Look that up and see how many were made I was told that were less than a 1000 made that year.

6 cyl and 4x4
I've got a '68 K10 LWB 4x4 with a 292 and 4 spd that I just use around the house. It'll pull whatever you want it to. It makes the engine bay look "hollow" though.

Bought this one a month or so ago...70 GMC 3/4 4x4 came with the original 6 cyl 250 engine and a 4 speed tranny...np 205 TC and a detrioit locker in the rear, standard steering and standard brakes... according to my books it should have 457 gears in it... and by the way it drives I'd say it does. Didn't come with many options at all...no radio or cigarette lighter either.

Got a 67 4x4, 292 4-speed that had a long bed stepside. Body wasn't to good but has a real good frame. Still collecting some parts, but since I have had it, installed running gear (front and rear axles) from a 77 Blazer with disc brakes w/307 gears. Not sure how that ratio is going to work yet with the 6-cyl.

I've got a 72 swb 4x4 with the 250 & 4spd. They're not much for power.

Bought it from the original owners son. They purchased the truck when they lived in California. It had the smog pump on it, but they took it off a number of years ago.

My 68 shorty is a v8 truck, but I am searching for the proper crossmember to mount a 292 in there. Hmm, Dana 60's TH400/205 and a 292...... Sounds kinda cool to me! Oh the madness

My 68 chev shorty is a 292 4 speed with posi (and tow hooks). I swear to god it would pull a freight train up a 90 degree angle.

250 ci
My 72 4x4 had an original 250- 6 in it . I got tired of it and put my 406 in it and very happy with the torque & power out of it now ! I put that 6 cyl in my 69 4x4 I'm building just to move around the yard until I can put a 350 TBI motor in .
