Re: Legal ls swap

I did years ago. I put a 350 sbc in place of a I6 in a Nova, and it wasn't all that bad. Just more annoying then anything setting appointments, and then waiting.

Re: Legal ls swap

My wife is from so cal, but lives here in nort west Tn now. She has told me about the smog laws in cali. It is no problem here in my county. We don't have to do smog test. We just go to court house and get tags for your vehicle. My 85 Silverado has straight dual exhaust with no cats. You can swap any engine in any kind of vehicle and not have to worry about a smog test. Put a carbed V8 in a 2000 S-10 and no problem getting it registered.

Talking Re: Legal ls swap

SC doesn't even require a state inspection anymore. They were so dishonst about them the state stopped it.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Legal ls swap

just the big metro areas that get lots of smog here get the inspection
anywhere in the valley basically.

kudos man. I lived in the the bay area for some time and I know passing California DEQ inspection deserves a pat on the back.
they can be real nazis about that ****.

here in nc (now remenber i am a nc state inspector) Anything 35 years or older no\\are exempt from inspections. but anything 34 years or new has to have the original size engine, and emission componates still installed and can not have been tampered with.

Congrats! If I ever go legal I'll hit you up. I'd imaging it was a pain getting evap and purge hooked up and everything running.

Even if it is a CLEANER burning engine with a tail pipe test?

Re: Legal ls swap

Great job! I have a 76 I am doing right now. My only question is in regards to the EVAP system. How did you do this? If you have a build thread or pictures that would be great. My truck is registered in a non-smog area of California, I am in non op at the moment, I am not sure if I will need an initial smog for the tags or not so I may need to be totally compliant. Any input would be great. What fuel tank did you use?

Thanks,

Matt

Re: Legal ls swap

No smog testing here in IN either. Even then, my truck is old enough there's nothing they can do about it...

Re: Legal ls swap

We'll you can go two ways on the evap you can have your tuner turn off all the related codes for the evap and the I/M moniter will set to ready or you can run a resistor in to fool the ecm into thinking it has half a tank of fuel only problem with that route is the test will fail eventually because the ecm does not see the fuel level change and thinks the float is stuck in range the nice thing is the evap still works just fine when the codes are disabled it just dosent run the test I have 3000 miles so far with no problems @mattcrp1

Re: Legal ls swap

Thanks for the response. I think I will have the evap codes turned off when I get tuned. Are you running the original evap canister and just plumbing it into the evap solenoid on the engine? Did you hook up a fuel tank pressure sensor? I am not totally familiar with GM stuff. I have an 87 fuel injection tank and I am going to run an in-tank pump so I think if I hook up a newer canister and plumb it all together it should work. Thanks for input.
