1971 C10 Bad Frame
Hello i been working on my great grandpa's 1971 C10 2wd longbed.
the frame is in really bad shape to the point that it looks like swiss cheese and has big craters in it. So i am looking for some suggestions on what i should do? my plan is to try to get the frame fixed so i can get it powder coated. i tried looking for a frame but i cant find one that would work because my truck has front disk brakes and rear leaf springs. i thought about if i cant find a frame i thought about seeing if i could possibly get one made? or sections made (it is mostly the back half of the frame that is bad). thank you everyone |

That frame is toast! You definitely need to find one to replace it with. Junkyards, board members? I have one here in southern TN, but I'm sure there are many closer to you... Congrats on getting your great grandpa's truck and good luck!

Re: 1971 C10 Bad Frame
Your going to need more than just a frame. New bed and cab, the truck in general is toast

Re: 1971 C10 Bad Frame
I own a shop. I could not let you drive that truck away from my place without you having frame work. No I mean if you go to a shop for like muffler work or something if they know what they are supposed to be up on, they are under legal obligation to hold that truck until it could be deemed safer to be put back on the road. Of course you know it needs help that is why your asking. Oh yeah, welcome to the board. You may be able to find a frame with trailing arms easier they were more of those I would dare to guess. Even if you find an older one say anything 68 to 70 even one with all drum you have the stuff to put the disc under it on your frame already. You have the part that everybody else wants. I would keep watch on the parts boards there are frames turning up every so often there. You may want to consider paying the $25 dollar membership fee for a year so that you can post an wanted ad to buy. Also keep tabs on your local C-list they have some trucks stuff on there sometimes by the way did you know there are other thing on there beside s car/truck parts ? Who knew! Jim

Re: 1971 C10 Bad Frame
Might have better luck finding a good C20 frame to use.
