Engine ID troubles
I recently bought a 1983 Chevy k10 with a supposed crate 350. He has no paperwork but it looks and sounds new. I am trying to get the identification codes but i cant see the rear driver side code(too far in back), and the head is covering the other id code on the passenger side front code. Where can i find codes to identify exactly what i have?

Re: Engine ID troubles
Loosen up the alternator and move it out of the way to see the suffix code, crawl up on top of the motor and use a flash light to see the casting numbers on the top of the bell housing on the drivers side.

Re: Engine ID troubles
i can try to climb up but its a real cluster f*** with wires, and isnt the suffix code right infront of the head, because im almost positive thier is nothing protruding past the head it sits flush with the block. Ill double check tommorrow or somthing

Re: Engine ID troubles
If I'm not mistaken crate engines don't have suffix codes. They should have a casting number though on drivers side bellhousing flange.
