Grinding/Rubbing When Turning While Stopped
Hey guys,
I am new here, my other post is probably close but i would like to address my first issue and see if anyone has some insight. Anyways my steering grinds when I turn the wheels while stopped and it feels like there is an enormous strain on the spring in there. I am a strong guy and I can turn them but does that part need to be lubed or anything? I am looking into power steering on the parts board with no luck so in the mean time I need to get that fixed. It straightens itself out fine but it sort of sounds like opening up an old wooden manual garage with old springs. Thats the best I can describe it. I will post a picture, maybe that will help? |

Re: Grinding/Rubbing When Turning While Stopped
The first thing I would do is put the front of the truck up on some jackstands (steering/wheel able to freely turn) and, with the help of a buddy (or your wife) turning the wheel, have the steering turned all left and right and inspect it while they are turning the wheel. Watch/feel/listen for interference, grinding or other problems. Maybe you have some binding and/or interference in the steering components.
This is a good start point....keep us posted and maybe we can troubleshoot from there. Coley

Re: Grinding/Rubbing When Turning While Stopped
I notice sometimes the wheel doesnt fix itself straight. It occasionally will require some effort to straighten out after a turn.
